Although I don`t recall a "Thwaites Mansion" on Thwaites Place during the time that I grew up in that neighborhood during the 1940s and 50s, I can tell you that the Thwaites family DID live on that street for THREE generations (according to John Mc Namara in his "History In Asphalt"). To quote Mc Namara: "The Thwaites lived on this small street for three generations and their property is listed in Beers 1868 Atlas and Bromley`s 1891 Atlas. Mention of this family is found in early records, dating back to 1703 when the name of Dan Twaites (spelled this way) is found on a list of schoolmasters". Sammy S.

    3. If you don't have his SSN, do you have his Navy Serial number which was used prior to the SSN. All Milper had a distinct Ser. No.until the late 60s. If he is deceased and a military retiree, your friend if not divorced (depending on age and other factors) may be eligible for some benifits, his children may also be eligible to receive any medals or records. In either case his children probably have legitimate access to the records. Access the following site to find your legal opportunities. I am not an attorney, but a retired Naval Officer so get legal advice if you need it. The below address will get you access to military records site. http://www.archives.gov/research_room/vetrecs/ - Surnames: Lee Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JRB.2ACE/1560 Message Board Post: My friend was married May 1945 at Justice of Peace in Brooklyn, New York. 1. NEW YORK STATE CENSUS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
    2. Please help so that we can expedite this project. Thanks Marie A project is currently underway to create an online street index of the 5 New York City boroughs for the New York State census (1905, 1915, 1925). Street indexes for Manhattan 1915 and Brooklyn 1915 are already online at the One-Step website, http://www.stevemorse.org. The next phase of this project is Manhattan 1905, Bronx 1905 and Manhattan 1925. These online street indexes will be created from the existing New York County 1905/1915/1925 street index microfilms. The microfilmed index cards are being digitized first, then the digital images will be provided to volunteers for transcription and data entry. Several volunteers are currently needed to help complete the digitizing of the street index microfilms. Those interested will need access to a library that has the microfilms onsite (or can be brought onsite, such as at a Family History Center), as well as a digital microfilm scanner or other device that can make digital images of the microfilm. If you're interested in volunteering to digitize and you have access to both the films and digital imaging equipment, please contact Elise Friedman at [email protected] Check http://www.stevemorse.org often for additional volunteer opportunities and updates to the New York State Census street indexes, as well as the many other resources available on the One-Step website.
