Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JRB.2ACE/1592.1.2 Message Board Post: Gwen: In response to your reply of the question about someone who wanted to get the death certificate of their grandmothers brother-in-law. Although in a case like that the person is not a blood relative. However, what does NYC use to define "relative" i can find no standards listed on the NYC-DOH website. NYS-DOH does list standards on theirs...and has time periods listed. But, all NYC says is that they will release a death certificate of a "relative" We'll i want to send for the death certificate of my grandfather's sister who died in Queens in 1989. She would therefore be a blood relative to me and be my great aunt. Would NYC DOH release the death certificate to me??. Because i know under NYS-DOH standards if she died in the state outside of the city...i would NOT be entitled. However, i know NYC has a separate Vital Statistics Office and does not operate under the Albany system...so just wanted to see if this would be different. If you know...please advise. I have indeed ordered FHL film 1379538 (I live in Canada, so getting NARA films is not practical). From it, I hope to get Charle's (sorry, by mistake wrote "George" in my initial message) arrival info. My intention in looking for Bronx directories (if such exist), though, was also to find out what happened to Charles later. Also, there was a Sophie Badzo living at the same address in 1938. I'd like to see if I can find something about her after that year (eventually, she must've got married and changed her surname). I'm also going to contact NY Public Library regarding the city directories. Best regards, Bohdana

Although the Ellis Island online site has an index from 1892 to 1924 (done by volunteers from the Mormon Church), the National Archives has a separate index from 1897 to 1902, and then from 1902-1943. The 1902-1943 index is series T621. If your local NARA doesn't have that film series, the LDS has....by order if necessary. I see Badzo having a soundex of B320, and the LDS film that corresponds to the roll of T621 should be 1379538.

    1. Unusual Marriage Record Problem
    2. Jerry Schneider
    3. I am trying to get a copy of the marriage record, license and application for my grandparents. I hope that SKS would be able to assist me in solving this riddle. Family lore indicated that the marriage took place in the Bronx in 1926 which concurs with the recollections of my mother and aunt. But, all indices searches or look-ups by the Archives and NYC Health department indicated that NO such event was EVER recorded!! Recently, however, I found some documents which seem to shed some light on the situation but I am not exactly sure how to proceed. So, I can use any help or guidance. From recently uncovered documents, it appears that the record of the marriage, held in the Bronx at the Jacob H. Schiff Center on February 7, 1926 was somehow either LOST or NOT filed with the Bronx City Clerk by the Rabbi immediately after the marriage. One of the documents that I recently found is a Certificate (No. 5199) from the Clerk of the County of Bronx and Clerk of the Supreme Court dated July 15, 1940. In this Certificate, the Clerk certifies that "I have compared the within photographic copy of Certificate and Record of Marriage between Maurice R. Harrison and Irene C. Tuck, the original of which is endorsed as filed in my office bearing date of September 3, 1935." Furthermore, I have a letter from the Rabbi, dated July 10, 1940, confirming the time and place of the marriage (February 7, 1926 at the Schiff Center) and that the "marriage was recorded with the City Clerk, Borough Hall, County of the Bronx." So, it appears that there was a delayed filing of the marriage record with the Bronx Clerk's Office. With this background, how would I get the following items: 1. Marriage Application and License as filed with the Bronx Clerk's Office in 1926. What are the fees and to whom do I send the request?; and 2. A copy of the official marriage record (marriage certificate), that was apparently filed several years later on September 3, 1935. What are the fees and to whom do I send the request? Also, if anyone has access to the September, 1935 certificates or indices, is it possible to locate the official record number? In summary, the details are: Morris (Maurice Robert) Harrison wed Irene C. Tuck at the Schiff Center in the Bronx on February 7, 1926. The official recording of the marriage was not done until September 3, 1935. I hope that you are not as confused as I am!!! Any assistance in locating the proper records or procedures would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. - jerry

    1. BUNNELL Marriage 1927 HISTORICAL NEWSPAPERS - PLEASE HELP!
    2. Hello all ~ I have a 2 week free trial for Historical Newspapers on Ancestry.com. I am having a terrible time getting around this site! Is there someone who can help me find a 1927 Marriage Notice in the NY Times, or other NYC newspaper, for Charles H. BUNNELL, Jr. of New York (Manhattan or Bronx) and his bride ANNA (maiden name unknown); both b. IL; Charles b. in Chicago 1905. I do not know when in 1927 they married... Also, there are references to marriages under Charles H. BUNNELL in a Bridgeport, CT paper - Bridgeport Telegram - Apr 15, Jun 28, Dec 24, 1927. Charles' brother, Arthur BUNNELL, lived in Bridgeport, so perhaps something there about the wedding. Hope someone can do a look-up for me. I am trying to track down my half brother...
