Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JRB.2ACE/1618.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Carol, If you go to: http://www.stevemorse.org/natural/naturalization.html there is a search engine there for the Italian Genealogical Society database of Bronx naturalizations.... searching on William Liebowitz , sounds like, petititons, yields 3 hits with specific numbers. Perhaps Tony can answer what to do next.... One question...William isn't a Roumanian name. What was his original first name? You can search the Ellis Island site with many options from the One Step site (above, see his utilities). I found a Mosche Lebowitz coming through Ellis Island on Jan 14, 1903 that was a possible. Good luck with your searches....

Surnames: LIEBOWITZ Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JRB.2ACE/1618.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks to Bob and Joel for your replies. Yes, the name is misspelled on the 1920 census--I should have mentioned that. It took me a long time to find it originally--glad you were able to, Joel. Another thing that looks confusing--a son, Irving, listed with his parents in 1920 had changed his last name from Liebowitz to Lebourt. I'm very glad to know the records are centralized and I don't need to know the specific court. What is the easiest way to go about obtaining the record? Thank you very much. Carol Harrison

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JRB.2ACE/1618.1.1 Message Board Post: Bob, Looks like the person in 1920 is William Laberwitz age 72 from Roumania....in the Bronx on Kelly Street. The enumerator did put down years for PA although it's clear from the enumerator instructions s/he was supposed to do that only for naturalized persons.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JRB.2ACE/1618.1 Message Board Post: 1. I can't find a William Liebowitz in the 1920 census in the Bronx. 2. The 1920 census asks status of citizenship for immigrants: naturalized, papers submitted, alien. Only those who were naturalized are asked a date of naturalization. There are no dates for papers filed. 3. The court is immaterial. All naturalizations after 1906 have centralized records with INS and can be obtained through an Freedom of Infromation request.

The 1920 census shows PA 1918. And how to obtain a copy of the record. Looking for the record of William LIEBOWITZ (could be a little different spelling). He was born about 1848 and arrived in the US 1900-1902. I'm hoping to learn the date and the name of the ship from his naturalization record. If there might be anyone who does look-ups in these records, that would be fantastic. And I would gladly pay any charges connected with obtaining the copy. Thank you so very much for any information. 1. Irish immigrants -- "The Search For Missing Friends"
    2. Just in time for St. Patrick's Day, Boston College has announced it's putting online the "The Search For Missing Friends" column through which Irish immigrants tried to find relatives and friends they'd lost track of. This is potentially an incredibly useful resource for those of us searching for *our* relatives. It previously was available only as an eight-volume collection of books. The database is at <infowanted.bc.edu> There's a long article about the ads and the database in today's Boston Globe: <http://www.boston.com/news/education/higher/articles/2005/03/17/the_irish_imm igrant_past_gets_tie_to_today/> Happy St. Patrick's Day Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS) Helen M. I am not convinced that Anthony submitted this registration---but I realize it's possible that Bellevue opened a branch hospital in the Bronx without informing me. Bronx and Bellevue are also paired at your registration : http://registry.adoption.com/records/265804.html so you may be the author of both registrations. The hospital's locale is “MANAHATTAN” in Michelle's registration at : http://www.adopteeconnect.com/d/a/75970 www.PrivateEye.com has an Anthony Wayne KENNEDY in Oregon, who was born 08/07/1983. The website shows the cities he lived in. I don't think that's the person sought. Good luck from Reg Niles

    1. Virtual New York City
    2. With the kind permission of Noelle ([email protected]), who first posted this information at [email protected], I am posting the following: http://www.vny.cuny.edu Virtual New York, is a website devoted to the history of New York City and its people. Produced by the New Media Lab at the Graduate Center, City University of New York, VNY offers resources on New York City's past unavailable elsewhere on the Web and, informed by the latest scholarship, new ways to understand that history. Virtual New York's inaugural exhibit "DISASTER!" examines the worst of times and how they changed the city. Currently, 3 exhibits are online: "The 1863 Draft Riots", "The Blizzard of 1888" and "Cholera in the Nineteenth Century". DISASTER: Cataclysm and change in New York's history http://www.vny.cuny.edu/disaster.html I hope this information is useful or, at least, interesting. Regards, Walter Greenspan
