Page 368 History of Allegany County :"J. A. Rider, a native of Livingston county, went to Hornellsville in 1861 to learn photography with Mr. Sutton, and was there till 1868, when he came to Wellsville and as a member of the firm of McCrary & Rider established a photogrph gallery. Mr. McCrary died the same year, and Mr Rider purchased the entire business and has since conducted it very successfully." Page 355 mentions C. L. McCrary as a member of the Tamanund Lodge IOOF (Odd Fellows) Page 349 mentions S. Mccrary as a speaker in a lecture course of the Library and Literary Association - it does not give a topic of his lecture. In Woodlawn Cemetery (It is on line on the Allegany County Local History website) Charles L. McCrary Died July 7, 1869 28 years, 24th NY Battery Sylvester H. McCrary Died Sept 24, 1875 Aged 50, Husband to Harriett Cole. The 1850 census shows them as sons of John living in Livingston county NY, just a little north of here.
