    3. Good morning. Wyoming Conty was established May 14 1841. Eagle, Pike and part of Portage were annexed from Allegany County in 1846. A few civil records were kept in the late 1840s but New York State did not mandate keeping records of birth, marriage, and death until 1880. So it will be almost impossible to locate a birth record in 1815. A JAMES CALDWELL married MARY HANNA Their children were Martha, william W., Agnes J. and Margaret. Martha married Lewis W. Pfisteer. SAMUEL MC CARTHA CALDWELL was born 22 Oct. 1792, was of victor n.Y. and Kalamazoo MI., In 1816 he married SOPHRONIA MURRAY of Pike N.Y. Accxording to the Murray Genealogy their first child was not born until 1818. I hope this helps. Wil Vasile

    3. A little known fact is that you can find birth and sometimes marriage and death information in Civil War Records. The Pension Record will often state where and when a soldier was born, when the soldier died, and if the widow of a soldier applied for a pension, she has to prove when and where they were married. There are so many other records from the Civil War time frame. One of the records even states what the parents names were, when and where the soldier was born, with information from the soldiers war service. 3. Actually, to us seasoned genealogists it is a well known fact that CW records often carry names of parents, birth & marriage dates & occupation of enlistee. To amateur genealogists this would be a little known fact if they haven't yet begun searching through enlistment records. Also, remember if they were Catholics, you should check with the local Diocese. Catholics keep real good records because they want to know how much they can hope for in future donations to the church.
