For those of you who have done some of the volunteer FamilySearch Indexing, two of the current projects are NY Marriage records, and the ones I'm running into are currently Allegany County. The faster these get indexed, the sooner they will be available for searching the images online. If you haven't aready participated in indexing and are interested, go to FamilySearch.com and there is a tab and link on how to get started. You can also find their page on Facebook. The indexing is quite easy to do -- you see the images on your screen and type in the information the form asks for. There is an introductory tutorial video. The whole process is that there are two people who will index the record and a third person checks or arbitrates any differences between the two indexers. In case you don't already know, you can search records at http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start If you go to the "Browse Records" link below the search box, it will take you to the list of the current images online which includes the 1905 and 1892 census which include Allegany county. 1865 is partially there as "browse images only, and unfortunately for us, Allegany county is not yet included.
