McCARTHY ATHERTON Mrs. Viola A. ATHERTON of Main Street, Belfast, died February 16, 1974, at Cuba Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Born in Belfast on March 16, 1894, she was a daughter of Fred and Katherine DURNEIN McCARTHY. She wed Lynn CHAMBERLAIN, who died in 1932. On October 26, 1934, she wed Elmer ATHERTON, who died in 1969. Mrs. ATHERTON was a member of St. Patrick's Church and its Altar and Rosary Society; Belfast Leisure Club and Belfast Grange 1068. She graduated from Belfast Training Class in 1912 and taught school for several years in the various rural schools. Surviving are a nephew, two grandnephews and three great-grandnephews. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Murken Funeral Home, formerly the Wolcott Funeral Home, Belfast, where a prayer service and recitation of the Rosary will take place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at St. Patrick's Church with the Rev. Francis J. JANN, pastor as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Belfast. [Transcribed by Louise Y.
