CURTIS, Civil War veteran and hardware merchant. At an early age the deceased entered the establishment of his father to whom he was apprenticed to learn the tinner's trade which he practiced in Savona, Avoca and Belmont, N.Y. and for the last fifty two years in Fillmore. > > Of that time he was employed twenty-two years by Charles RICKER, sixteen years by W.H. ROBBINS, seven by the Fillmore Hardware Company of which he was part owner, and the remaining years up to the time of his death, he conducted a hardware store, shop and oil business in this village. > > Mr. CURTIS was united in marriage Dec. 27, 1887 to Miss Joanna HODNETT of Fillmore, by Father LEE of Belfast. To this union was born one son, Arthur W., of Fillmore. > > Mr. CURTIS was a devout member of the Catholic faith. He was also a member of the Modern Woodmen and Maccabees, of which latter organization he was Record Keeper at the time of his death. > > The death of this citizen serves a bond between himself and the business with which he has been associated in this vicinity for more than half a century but it continues as a bond of esteem and friendship in the memory of all with whom he came in contact. > > He was a loyal friend; sad, when any one met the face of grief; glad when prosperity smiled or gladness came.
