Lloyd Lane son of Mr and Mrs S S Lane of West Clarksville who is a member of Field Hospital No.23 and has been at Ft.Oglethorpe,Ga is now in France, his parents having received a card announcing his safe arrival a few days ago. The fact that the card received by Mr and Mrs Lane was mailed on this side directs attention to the method of announcing the arrival on the other side of American soldiers. Each man before sailing is given a form card to fill out announcing his arrival in France. Three are all kept at the point of sailing until word is received by a wireless or cable that the boat has reached the other side with all men on board safe. Then the cards are mailed. .If there are any deaths on the way are any ill that fact is also cabled or wirelessed over so that the men in charge of the cards can change the information to correspond with the facts. This saves from a week to ten days or more in getting word from the soldiers to his parents or others whom he may wish to notify.Patriot Elaine s88897@aol.com
