Lester NOBLE of Short Tract, who died in the service of his country in France, Dec. 16, 1944, was returned to his home town and laid to rest in the village cemetery with full military honors, after a memorial service, Saturday evening. The youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Miles NOBLE, Lester was graduated from Fillmore Central School in 1943, entered Cornell U. and received training at Camp Wheeler, Ga., and Ft. Jackson, S. C. He was 19 at the time of his death. The remains were escorted home by Sgt. Theodore C. WOLAN of the U.S. Military Escort Detachment. A large number of friends gathered at the Short Tract Methodist Church for a memorial service. The Revs. W. Roy ROSS and Marvin FREDERICKSON officiated and delivered impressive sermons. Wilson KOPLER of Hume sang two hymns. The service at the grave was in charge of the American Legion of Fillmore. [Northern Allegany Observer obituary, transcribed by Louise Y.
