YOUNG, 90, occurred here (Fillmore) at his home in this village Wednesday afternoon. With the passing of Mr. YOUNG who had been in declining health for the past few years, this community loses one of its best known citizens, from his active participation in both business and civic affairs over a long period. Born in Belfast in 1856, he came to Fillmore when a young man and until he retired in 1928 he had engaged in several local enterprises. For several years he had divided his time between this village and his home in St. Petersburg, Fla. With his wife, who died in 1936, Mr. YOUNG made a tour of Europe several years ago. In 1887 Mr. YOUNG formed a partnership with the late Winthrop G. Young under the firm name of Young and Young and operated a chain of 26 butter and cheese factories. This company for years held a controlling interest in Young & Gleason Co., millers at Fillmore. With a group of business associates he formed the Cuba Cheese & Cold Storage Co., of Cuba, wholesale cheese dealers. In 1904 Mr. YOUNG founded the Genesee Valley Power Co. which developed hydro-electric power at Mills Mills and Wiscoy, and built lines to serve electric current to about half of Allegany County and a portion of Wyoming County. The corporation continued with Mr. YOUNG as its president until 1928 when it was sold to the Rochester Gas & Electric Corporation of Rochester. At that time, Mr. YOUNG retired from active business. He was a member of Oriona Lodge, F&AM, Fillmore, and served as a member of the Fillmore Board of Education for several years. He leaves two daughters, Beulah M. and Dora H. YOUNG and one son, Hollis G. YOUNG, district manager of the Rochester Gas & Electric Corporation; all of Fillmore, three grand-children, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at his late home Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. Wm. SWALES of the Methodist Church officiating and interment will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery.
