He was a life resident of Almond, New York he was married to Sarah Jane Campbell and they had 10 children. My grandfather was a 19 year old private with the 1st New York Dragoons and was with General Philip Sheridan and General Grant when Lee surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse. I have been desperately trying to find family pictures of Lewis and have come up empty and there doesnt seem to be any pictures of his regiment.
