Cynthia died sometime after 1879 at a time and place unknown to me. She was enumerated in the 1880 census of Hornellsville, Steuben Co., New York. William Johnson was born 07 Mar 1805 in New York and died 16 Jan 1860 likely in Canaedea, Allegany Co., New York. He's buried there in Canaedea Cemetery. William's parentage is unknown to me. William and Cynthia HASKINS Johnson had at least seven children born in eastern Allegany Co., New York between 1830 and 1852. The names of their children are: Almira, Annaliza, Albert H., Miranda, Teresa S., William B., and Helen. It is believed that after William Johnson's death in 1860 wife Cynthia never remarried. Cynthia is enumerated in the 1860 and 1870 census records of Canaedea, as follows: 1860 census of Canaedea, Allegany Co., NY lists: Cynthia Johnson Head Age 50 NY Albert Johnson Son Age 22 NY Teressa Johnson Daughter Age 18 NY William Johnson Son Age 12 NY Helen Johnson Daughter Age 8 NY 1870 census of Canaedea, Allegany Co., NY lists: Cynthia Johnson 61 Keeping House William B. 22 Farm Laborer Nellie 18 I believe that the above Helen "Nellie" JOHNSON (b. ca. 1852) married to John S. Simons sometime between the 1870 and 1880 census. Nellie may have been the second wife of John Simons. The family of John and Nellie JOHNSON Simons is enumerated in the 1880 census of Steuben Co., New York, as follows: 1880 census of Hornellsville, Steuben Co., New York (page 318A) lists: John S. SIMONS Self M Male W 46 MA Locomotive Engineer MA MA Nellie SIMONS Wife M Female W 27 NY Keeping House CT NY Ida SIMONS Dau S Female W 16 NY At Home MA NY Mary SIMONS Dau S Female W 13 NY At Home MA NY Charles SIMONS Son S Male W 10 NY At Home MA NY Marion SIMONS Son S Male W 2 NY MA NY Cynthia JOHNSON MotherL W Female W 71 NY NY NY The 1880 census of Hornellsville is my last known record of Cynthia HASKINS Johnson. I have not found her in the online cemetery records of Steuben or Allegany counties. I have no subsequent records of the family of John and Nellie JOHNSON Simons; perhaps, Cynthia went with them when they removed from Hornellsville. I am trying to find the place of death and burial of Cynthia HASKINS Johnson (ca. 1809 - aft. 1879). Also, any information on the whereabouts of John and Nellie JOHNSON Haskins, after 1880, would be much appreciated. Paul E.
