John McCarthy passed away this morning in hospital. Death takes retired mail carrier after months of illness. John T McCarthy passed away at 10:45 this forenoon in the Cuba Memorial Hospital to which he had been taken 2 weeks ago. He had been in failing health for several months and for several weeks before going to the hospital and had been confined to the home. He was 60 years of age and had been a resident of Friendship for practically his entire life. Almost one year ago on 1 Oct 1934 he retired from the post office service after carrying mail to rural patrons of the Friendship post office for 30 years. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Holy Name Society of the place.Funeral arrangements have not been made yet at press time but it is expected that the service will be held in Sacred Heart Church on Saturday morning. He is survived by his wife,Kathryn Scanlon McCarthy and three children Marie Grace,Edward, and Tyrrell also two brothers James McCarthy of Friendship and Dennis McCarthy of Bolivar.
