W. COMMON No date E. W. COMMON was born in the town of West Almond August 8, 1862, son of Amanda DAVIDSON and Thomas COMMON. He spent his early life in West Almond, coming to Fillmore in 1899. While in Fillmore he engaged in farming and carpenter work. He repaired and erected a number of buildings in this town, the finest of which was the first Fillmore School and also his residence on the hill (34 Emerald Street). He was well known and had many friends and relatives who were always welcome at his home. He was a member of Oriona Grove Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, for many years. His wife, Mary LUTHER, passed away in 1935, after which he made his home with his son, Bert, in Fillmore. He was very feeble in later years and suffered a shock 12 days before his death. He was tenderly cared for at the home of his son and family and was laid to rest May 22 in Riverside Cemetery in the family plot in Belfast. His son Bert, and two grandchildren Ralph and Wells COMMON, are his only surviving near relatives. [Northern Allegany Observer obituary, transcribed by Louise Y. Mills, 2003, from Cora Lahr's scrapbooks, Fillmore, NY]
