COLE 1941 Funeral services will be held for Frank W. COLE, 85, retired Fillmore druggist, whose death came not unexpectedly. Mr. Cole had been in rapidly failing health since the first of the year and had not been well for the past few years. On New Year's Day, with his wife, their 54th wedding anniversary was quietly observed at their home, a few close relatives dropping in to felicitate them. Born in the town of Allen on February 16, 1856, Frank W. COLE after educating himself, taught school for a few terms and in 1884 purchased the drug business of Frank WRIGHT in Fillmore. He continued to operate the store until about 1920 when he retired. Of a genial, accommodating nature, he established a large trade and was well known throughout northern Allegany County. His death removes one of the oldest residents of the town. Mr. COLE was united in marriage to Mary HOLLAND, who survives, on January 1, 1887 and to the union five children were born: Mrs. John STURROCK of Attica; Clifford D. COLE of Mt. Morris, Mrs. Lester J. WARD of Fillmore, and Mrs. J.R. WATERMAN of Centerville. Another daughter Rowena, died May 6, 1915. Three of the children were educated for pharmacist's professions, Mrs. STURROCK, who operates the Crystal Pharmacy in Attica; Mrs. WARD ,who assists her husband in the operation of Ward's Store in Fillmore, and Clifford D. COLE who owns Cole's Pharmacy in Mt. Morris. Mr. and Mrs. COLE have spent nearly their entire life in the vicinity of Fillmore with the exception of brief periods of travel. Many years ago Mr. COLE and his wife made a journey abroad, visiting several foreign countries and attending the famous Passion Play at Oberammergau, Germany. Following the death of their daughter in 1915, Mr. and Mrs. Cole presented a stained glass window to the Fillmore Methodist Church, the likeness of Christ which it contains having been copied from a photograph of Anton LANG, given to Mr. COLE by Mr. Lang, who depicted the part of the Savior in the play. Besides his wife and children, Mr. COLE is survived by a sister, Mrs. Ella McINTOSH, of Pike and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held at his late home, conducted by the Rev. Harold WASS, and burial will be made in Pine Grove Cemetery. [Northern Allegany Observer obituary, transcribed by Louise Y.
