Hello, I'm looking for John Alexander SMITH, b. Feb. 1818 (or 1819) Washington Co. New York - which originally included a part of Vermont; married abt. 1839, probably in Onondaga Co. NY, Lucinda WILCOX, b. abt. 1822 New York or Vermont. John Alexander & Lucinda (WILCOX) SMITH had seven children, I know of five: i. George Washington SMITH, b. 1840 Onondaga Co. NY - d. probably in Traverse City, Michigan; m. Almira (UNKNOWN), b. abt 1846 Allegany Co. NY. ii. Sara S. SMITH, b. abt. 1844 NY. iii. Martha J. SMITH, b. abt 1845 Cayuga Co. NY; m. James CALKINS, b. abt 1832 Allegany Co. NY, - son of Hiram & Rhobe (KING) CALKINS. iv. Frances Ellen SMITH, b. 11 Apr 1848 Genesee Falls, Wyoming Co. NY - d. 13 Sept 1918 Burley, Cassia Co. Idaho; m. 26 Mar 1865 Castile, Wyoming Co. NY, Willard Eddy CALKINS, b. 13 Sept 1835 Hume, Allegany Co. NY - d. 28 Apr 1914 Hansen, Twin Falls Co. ID. v. Fanny Jane SMITH, b. 27 May 1850 Genesee Falls, Wyoming Co. NY. In 1850 this SMITH family lived in Genesee Falls, Wyoming Co. NY. Two SMITH children, Q. A. SMITH, 3, m, and Frances E. SMITH, 2 f, are listed in the 1850 household of Miel & Jane (MATTISON) PIERCE in Castile, Wyoming Co. NY, just north of Genesee Falls. It's possible this is Frances E. SMITH of Genesee Falls, counted twice in the 1850 census. If so, Q. A. SMITH could be a sixth child of John & Lucinda. Lucinda (WILCOX) SMITH died abt. 1875, probably in Hume, Allegany Co. NY. John Alexander SMITH married 2nd, abt. 1876, Adelphia E. ROSE, b. Dec. 1860 NY - d. aft. 1906; daughter of John A. ROSE, b. abt. 1822 ENGLAND; and Rexa GREEN, b. abt. 1829 NY. John Alexander SMITH died 26 Sept 1906 in Hume or Wiscoy, Allegany Co. NY. According to family tradition, he ran a riverboat - on either the Hudson River, or the Erie Canal.
