HALWIG Mrs. Mary M. HALWIG, 77, of 117 Hamilton Street, Olean, prominent in church, club and community affairs, died unexpectedly in her home shortly after noon Friday, September 26. She was the wife of Harry F. HALWIG, funeral director. A native of Oramel, Allegany County, Mrs. HALWIG was a teacher in the Crawford Creek District School in the Town of Belfast before coming here in 1910 to attend Westbrook Commercial Academy. After her graduation, she taught shorthand there from 1911 until her marriage in 1917. Mrs. HALWIG was a member of the official board of the First Methodist Church, its Women's Society for Christian Service and a 50-year member of it's Aldersgate Sunday School Class, Past Matron of Electa Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of it's Past Matron's Club; Olean Court 119, Order of Amaranth; Hannah Shrine 26, White Shrine of Jerusalem; Banner Rebekah Lodge 112 of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, and it's Three Link Club. She was also chairman of the White Ribbon Committee of the Olean Christian Women's Temperance Union Chapter; a member of the Olean Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; Olean General Hospital Auxiliary; the Zonta Club; the Red Cross Blood Program Canteen Committee; Exchangettes Club; Genetaska Club; the Auxiliary of Olean Post 530 American Legion, and the First Baptist Church Senior Married Couples Club. Also surviving are two sons, Richard F. and H. Greydon, who are associated with their father in the Halwig Funeral Home, Inc., and a sister, Mrs. Laura M. TENNENT, Belfast. The Rev. Leonard P. IVES, her pastor, will conduct funeral and committal services Monday afternoon at 1:30 in Halwig's Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery. [Transcribed by Louise Y.
