Strange that there should have been two! His name was William Henry Liddiard, and he emigrated to the US (Nebraska) from England (Leicester) in about 1867. He was an associate of Bill Cody, and I believe it was Cody that gave him the name. He died in Wyoming in 1906. He had an amazingly interesting life, being involved in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show and the Indian Agency at Pine Ridge amongst other things. I think he was quite involved with the Sioux, and he was in the army, as well as being a judge and a deputy sheriff at various points of his life. I know a lot about him and have quite a bit of documentation, thanks to the wonderful services of various US archives. One of them sent me a cutting about this other Rattlesnake Pete. It was the first time I realised my ancestor wasn't unique! If you would like to see it, I will try to work out how the attachments work. We have a fant! astic scrap book that has come down to me, kept by his brother, my great great grandfather who stayed in Leicester. It is full of newspaper cuttings and photos of Judge W H Liddiard/Rattlesnake Pete. A great piece of history. I wonder if he and Hiram James Harvey were aware of each other?
