Her father, I beleive was John Hillman born 1739 in Ulster, N.Y. He married Elizabeth Depuy in 1784 in Tompkins, NY, died in 1822 in Chemung, NY. I think that there were 3 children: Samuel, Elizabeth, & SARAH HILLMAN. I have a family Bible from 1827 that shows info that Sarah married Ezra Sanford in 1798. The info pages show Ezra & Sarah's children, their spouses, and other Sanford info from 1777 (Ezra's birth) to 1984 deaths of decendants in Ca. Author: rtwhalen1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.allegany/10067/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello All I just wrote a couple letters to my State Assembly and State Senate representatives asking them to look into making the NYS Vital Records Index more available and preferably online. Several other states have done this and the index gives no more information than the SSDI already does. We've been paying 22 dollars per record for quite some time now and I think they've made enough to attempt a project like the digitization of the index. As always we can have more of an impact on our representatives with larger numbers so I would truly love it if my fellow NYS Genealogists wrote in to their representatives as well. 3. I don't know if it will help, but I looked up Isaac in Allegany County and it's people. Here are some of the manyreferences to him from the book. Allegany County and it’s People: Pg 82: “Capt. Isaac Van Nostrand, who afterward became a very prominent man in town and county affairs, came to Granger in 1819, and built the first sawmill. “ Pg: 206 , there is an A & I. Van Nostrand Post of the G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) in Short Track in the year 1866. I assume this post was dedicated to them after their deaths. Pg 238: “ If afflicted with a toothache, they (the people of Granger) usually resorted to Capt. Isaac Van Nostrand, who had a pair of turnkeys, and at pulling teeth was considered and “expert”. He also had a lancet and practiced venesection , many of the people believing in being bled regularly once a year” Pg. 527, last paragraph gives a short history of the Van Nostrand family up to the time of the writing of the book. There were two Isaacs, father and son. The Elder Isaac (The one with the sawmill and the turnkey) was married to a Grace Hatch, who was born in Tolland Ct. 1788. The paragraph does not mention the younger Isaac’s wife, only that he died in the last war (must have been the civil war). He is most likely the one, with his wife, for whom the G.A.R. post was named.
