Robert married Grace Lutz. Their kids all went to school with us. I don't know a lot, but they are somehow connected to the Stockin family also. You should try to get a hold of someone at the Rushford Free Library. They might have obits on file. As luck would have it, some of the Giboo kids ( Robert and Grace's kids) are connected to my genealogy through another line. Robert Giboo died in 1987 I think, but as far as I know Grace is still alive. Last I knew she was still living on Rawson Road between Cuba and Rushford. I have no information further back than Joseph Gonter, though family tradition says it was three brothers that came from Europe; Mathias and Ottomar could be brothers if the story is true. I appreciate you taking the time to find this information. I'm almost giddy with excitement, and I know my father and grandmother will be interested in this as well. It's not much, but I thought I'd mention it. My wife's father was raised in a hotel in Frostburg called "The Gonter Hotel". An old Mrs. Gonter and her son still lived in the hotel during his youth. She was killed in a tragic set of circumstances involving her son leaving the parking brake off in a car with her in it. The Gonters had sold the Hotel to my wife's great grandfather at that point, but still owned a ski lodge near the town at that time. She was killed near that ski lodge. That's all I have on Gonter. I live in San Antonio, TX and am 75 years old. My father's name was J. DeVere Green, from in and around Wellsville and Hornell. His mother's name was Emma 'Gonter' Green, who was born on September 18, 1872,and immigrated from Germany to the US with her family while in her teens, which would have been in the late 1880's. The information about: "Joseph Gonter, b. New York d. abt 1893 m1. Unknown, d. before 1890 --2 children, names and dates unknown, though they were teenagers around 1890." The time line is right for Emma Gonter to be one of the children as she was in her teens at that time. I know dad had a "favorite" cousin named Father Rob Gonter who was at the Dunkirk Seminary. And he had other relatives in Wellsville, one of which he was very fond of. I don't remember her name though. Maybe something like Margaret Flannigan. I might be on the right track after all. Grandmother married a John Eugene Green and in the 20's, 40's and 50's they had a Beer Hall and later a corner grocery in Hornell. They had 2 boys, Victor and my dad, J. Devere. Does any of the above information sound familiar to you? Would love to hear from you. Most sincerely, Donna Green Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
