Author: CubJL Surnames: Fisher Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.allegany/10078/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Ross Fisher and Grace (middle name Agnes?) unknown, married in about 1900 probably in Allegany County, NY perhaps the town of Friendship (where Ross lived) or a nearby town. I believe Grace may have been a year or two older than Ross. The following year they had a daughter, Ruth. >From August 1967 I have a envelope from Grace, mailed from Riverside, RI (to my Aunt in NJ) with enclosures of a delayed registration dated 19 August 1943, with a copy of a notarized birth information by the clerk of Allegany County William W Bush taken from the 1892 Census of Friendship, NY...stating that at that time Ross was 10, thus born in 1882. It appears from a note from the Div of Vital Statistics NY dated 25 Sept 1946 the information was sent to Ross at c/o Whipples Store in Manville, RI. Ross worked for the Pennsylvania Rail Road, out of the Buffalo division as a Engineman. (his Pass cards were also enclosed) This all may have been done to have an Social Security number issued, which is hand written on the notarized document by a family member, or maybe Ross himself. It begins 111-so maybe this is a number issued by the RR. If I could find information on their marriage (I have tried all the usual websites) I would know Grace's maiden name. If Ruth married, perhaps there are offspring. Looking for hope of help on this issue. (brick wall). I do not know when Ross or Grace died or where they are buried. I would think Ross died before the August 1967 letter was sent, and buried in RI THANKS! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. His wife's name was Mattie (Murray) Williams, and their children were Irene, Charles and Howard Williams. Frank and Mattie were from Allegany County, and are buried in the Dimick Cemetery in the Town of Wirt. Frank was born in 1871 and died in 1953. Mattie was born in 1881 and died in 1927. Frank was adopted into the Benjamin and Ruth Williams family at a young age. Does anyone know the best way to trace a adoption in Allegany County in the 1870s-80s? It might not even have been recorded, I don't know; I'd like to find out what happened to Frank's biological parents if that's at all possible. Irene was my grandmother; she died in 1946 at age 43. Howard was born in 1917 and died in 1933 at age 16. All I know about Charles is that he went to Michigan. Also, Frank and his family spent some time in Ohio; apparently he owned a restaurant in Youngstown, sometime from the 1900s to 1940s. Any information appreciated.
