Mrs. BIDWELL, who had been in failing health for several weeks was not considered in a critical condition until Sunday when her condition suddenly became worse. She was removed to the Fillmore Hospital late Monday afternoon for blood transfusions, but passed away Tuesday morning. Mrs. BIDWELL was a prominent member of the Methodist Church and Sunday School, Red Cross, member of the Board of Education of the Belfast Central School and was recently elected to the office of county vice president of the Home Bureau. She had been an active member of the Caneadea Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and served as Matron for several terms. She was active in numerous local endeavors and her passing leaves a distinct void in these circles. Surviving are her husband Claude E. BIDWELL, three grandchildren, Mrs. Robert TEMPLETON of Hackensack, N.J., Keith BURR of Marcellus and Lynn BURR of San Antonio, Texas; her mother Mrs. Rose HAMPTON of Friendship, a brother Weir KELLOGG of East Orange, N.J., and two sisters, Mrs. Henry CLARK of Caneadea and Mrs. Chris SMITH of Fillmore also several nieces and nephews. BENJAMIN No date The death of John A. BENJAMIN, 62, Rushford mortician, occurred suddenly when he was stricken with a heart attack while officiating at burial rites at the Alger Cemetery. It removes one of northern Allegany County's most prominent citizens. Mr. BENJAMIN collapsed as he was assisting in unloading the casket and was taken to the Fillmore Hospital in his funeral car, and was pronounced dead upon his arrival. Funeral services will be held at his home, the Masonic Lodge of which he was a member, performing the final rites. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Catherine, of Rushford. Mr. BENJAMIN, member of a family settling in Rushford in 1815, was born there July 4, 1877, son of James G. and Imogene KINGSBURY BENJAMIN. He was educated in Rushford schools and entered the office of the Rushford Spectator, the local weekly newspaper, where he remained for 14 years. Thirty-eight years ago he became associated with a brother, William F. BENJAMIN, in the undertaking and furniture business in Rushford and has conducted the business himself since 1922. Mr. BENJAMIN was prominent in the Masonic Order, holding membership in Joseph Enos Lodge of which he was a Past Master; Olean Lodge of Perfection, Olean; Buffalo Consistory, and Past District Deputy of the Allegany Masonic District, past president of the Past Master's Association of the Allegany Masonic District. He was past president of the Allegany County Funeral Director's Association, also holding membership in the state and national organizations. He was once president of the Allegany County YMCA, now defunct. In 1937 he was secretary-treasurer of the Genesee Country Association and at the time of his death he was a member of the Allegany County Park Commission. Greetings Listers: I hail from Wisconsi nand have returned almost yearly during the summer ot do research and a cpl of years ago ran into a problem. I tirend to find my great grandfather CARL LIONEL MERITT and wife SARAH ELIZABETH HOWARD MERITT as well as CARL's sister MYRTLE MERITT FRENCH and her husband BEALS ENSIGN LITCHFIELD FRENCH. It is beleived all 4 may be buried in the INDEPENDECE CEMETERY in Independence. Unfort. whiel there we were onyl able to find a stone on Carl's grave due to his military service. Does anyone know of records for that cemetery??? I tried stopping at neighboring farms and someone horse started chewing on my aunts minivan and so we moved on .. :) Any help would be very much appreciated, Yvonne Ramsell Simonson

She was the widow of Clyde BAKER, who died March 18, 1963 and had been a resident of the Belfast area all of her life. Mrs. BAKER was a graduate of the Belfast Training Class of 1917. For 30 years she was a teacher and taught most of the time in the Fillmore Central School District, retiring in 1957. She was a member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church of Belfast and its Altar and Rosary Societies. She was also a member of the New York State Teachers Association; the National Education Association and the Allegany Teachers Association. Surviving are a son, John BAKER of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Mrs. William (Joan) PARNELL of Webster; 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A prayer service and recitation of the Rosary will be held at the Wolcott Funeral Home, Belfast, on March 12, 1973, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Patrick's Church, with the Rev. Francis J.
