    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BUB.2ACI/6240 Message Board Post: PETER K. KELLEY No date Cuba friends were greatly shocked last Friday morning, July 13, to learn of the sudden death of Peter K. KELLEY, the genial landlord of the Hotel Kelley at Caneadea. Pete, as he was known to his hosts of friends, had been in his usual health until Thursday morning, when he was taken with an attack of acute indigestion. A physician was called and Mr. KELLEY seemed much better, but he was taken suddenly worse about 4 o'clock Friday morning and passed away before his relatives could be called to his bedside, his wife alone being present when death came. Peter KELLEY was born in Caneadea, Oct. 14, 1865, and is survived by his wife and one daughter, Carmelita; one sister, Agnes KELLEY of Belfast, and two brothers, Frank of Belfast and Thomas of Fort Worth, Texas; also two Nieces, Mrs. Vern DYE of Fillmore and Mrs. James BURNS of Buffalo. Mr. KELLEY was formerly a resident of Cuba, and had many friends here. About eighteen years ago he moved to his native town of Caneadea and bought the hotel which he conducted until his death. The funeral took place Monday forenoon at the late home of the deceased, where a short service was held, interment being made at Belfast. It is said to have been the largest ever seen in that community, a testimonial of the high regard in which Mr. KELLEY was held by all his friends and neighbors. A frank, honest, straightforward man, always the same and to all the same, he will be greatly missed in his community. [Transcribed by Louise Y. Mills, 2003, from obituary collection of Lenora Mills, Wiscoy, NY]

    3. Actually, Charlie Barrett's list of Mt. Hope is very impressive. I only wish I had thought to print a copy to take with me when I was there in June. I might not have known to go there if not for Charlies' list. I wandered through the cemetery for a couple of hours taking notes and pictures of stones and markers by memory. I know I missed some. But hopefully, I'll get a chance to go back. It's just a long drive from California. I don't have any direct ancestors buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, but I do have many cousins buried there, as well as a great-great grandaunt, Ure Sarah (Hart) Stout. One of the stones in the Stout plot had freshly cut flowers when I was there. I wonder by how much I missed meeting a new cousin. Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BUB.2ACI/6233 Message Board Post: SOPHIA HUFF A pall of sorrow spread over Belfast as it was learned that Sophia HUFF had passed away on Wednesday morning, November 8, 1939. Sophia HUFF was born May 17th, 1870, in Rochester, New York. She was the wife of the late Wm. Leroy HUFF and resided in Allen until 1927, when she removed to Belfast and lived here until the time of her death. Mrs. HUFF had been in poor health for several years, was a woman of sterling character and up to the time of her illness had taken an active part in religious and social affairs. Gracious, cultured and sympathetic, a kind neighbor, devoted mother and true friend and withal a courageous woman meeting the sorrows of life with the same sweet spirit that has won the love and esteem of all with whom she has been associated. Mrs. Huff was a member of the Methodist Church, O.E.S. No. 365, of Caneadea, and of a Missionary Society in Belfast. Surviving are her two sons, Joseph and Lee HUFF, two granddaughters, Dorothy and Janice, a niece, Miss Rose SCHUKNECHT all of Belfast, and one sister, Mrs. Louisa GILLESPIE of Appleton, Wis., also several nieces and nephews. God has called her home in the fullness of years and altho kindred and friends were very dear to her, still her thoughts were, "Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is, let me know how frail I am." The funeral was largely attended and held from her late home on Chestnut Street, at 2 o'clock, Saturday afternoon, Nov. 11, 1939. Loving hands provided many beautiful flowers. May it be the privilege of many more in the coming years to know that their loved ones loved Him who died for them. [Northern Allegany Observer obituary, transcribed by Louise Y.
