    1. [NYAllega] Lawrence & Belle (GRANGER) SMITH, NY
    2. Brad Aumick
    3. Hello, I'm looking for any info on Lawrence SMITH who married Belle GRANGER, both of Allegany Co. NY. >From LDS records online: Belle was the daughter of Sanford & Mary (MILLS) GRANGER. Belle's grandfather, David GRANGER, b. 1779 Washington Co. NY - d. 19 Sept. 1844 Pike, Allegany Co. NY; his father, Zaccheus GRANGER, b. 21 Nov 1733 Westfield, Hampden Co. MA - d. abt. 1812 Skaneatles, Onondaga Co. NY. My SMITH family also goes back to Onondaga and Washington Co.'s NY. LDS records have Lawrence SMITH, b. abt. 1849; Bell GRANGER, b. abt 1853 - ages don't match 1892 NY State Census, but I'm sure it's them. In 1892, Lawrence SMITH, 38 (b. abt. 1854) & Belle (GRANGER) SMITH, 32 (b. abt. 1860) are listed in the household of John & Adelphia E. (ROSE) SMITH in Hume, Allegany Co. NY. Children of Lawrence & Belle (GRANGER) SMITH (from the 1892 NY State Census - Hume NY): i. Clayton SMITH, b. abt. 1877. ii. Walter SMITH, b. abt. 1879. iii. Bird SMITH, b. abt. 1882. iv. Charles SMITH, b. abt. 1885. v. John SMITH, b. abt. 1886. Thank you, Brad Aumick aumickb@yahoo.com __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! 2. Brad Aumick
    3. Hello, I'm looking for John Alexander SMITH, b. Feb. 1818 (or 1819) Washington Co. New York - which originally included a part of Vermont; married abt. 1839, probably in Onondaga Co. NY, Lucinda WILCOX, b. abt. 1822 New York or Vermont. John Alexander & Lucinda (WILCOX) SMITH had seven children, I know of five: i. George Washington SMITH, b. 1840 Onondaga Co. NY - d. probably in Traverse City, Michigan; m. Almira (UNKNOWN), b. abt 1846 Allegany Co. NY. ii. Sara S. SMITH, b. abt. 1844 NY. iii. Martha J. SMITH, b. abt 1845 Cayuga Co. NY; m. James CALKINS, b. abt 1832 Allegany Co. NY, - son of Hiram & Rhobe (KING) CALKINS. iv. Frances Ellen SMITH, b. 11 Apr 1848 Genesee Falls, Wyoming Co. NY - d. 13 Sept 1918 Burley, Cassia Co. Idaho; m. 26 Mar 1865 Castile, Wyoming Co. NY, Willard Eddy CALKINS, b. 13 Sept 1835 Hume, Allegany Co. NY - d. 28 Apr 1914 Hansen, Twin Falls Co. ID. v. Fanny Jane SMITH, b. 27 May 1850 Genesee Falls, Wyoming Co. NY. In 1850 this SMITH family lived in Genesee Falls, Wyoming Co. NY. Two SMITH children, Q. A. SMITH, 3, m, and Frances E. SMITH, 2 f, are listed in the 1850 household of Miel & Jane (MATTISON) PIERCE in Castile, Wyoming Co. NY, just north of Genesee Falls. It's possible this is Frances E. SMITH of Genesee Falls, counted twice in the 1850 census. If so, Q. A. SMITH could be a sixth child of John & Lucinda. Lucinda (WILCOX) SMITH died abt. 1875, probably in Hume, Allegany Co. NY. John Alexander SMITH married 2nd, abt. 1876, Adelphia E. ROSE, b. Dec. 1860 NY - d. aft. 1906; daughter of John A. ROSE, b. abt. 1822 ENGLAND; and Rexa GREEN, b. abt. 1829 NY. John Alexander SMITH died 26 Sept 1906 in Hume or Wiscoy, Allegany Co. NY. According to family tradition, he ran a riverboat - on either the Hudson River, or the Erie Canal. Aurilla grew up in Steuben County, New York. She was Philo's second wife. As far as I can tell Philo had many children between the two marriages. 5 children from the first marriage (Oliver, Daniel, William, Silbey and Martin) and 8 children from the second (have found 3 Truman, Carlton and Andrew). In 1852 when Aurilla DAVID GOIT's father, Truman DAVID died at Bath, his will mentioned his daughter living in Allegany County, New York. What era died James and Belle live in? Have you found them in census records? I found a James and Bell Goyt in the 1880 census in Potter Co. Pennsylvania at familysearch.org. Did your family live in PA or in NY?

    3. Hello. I'm searching for any information on Luther C. Downing. Luther C. moved from Windsor County, Vermont to Allegany County, New York between 1810-1820. Luther's wife name was Sarah CAREY, they were married in Vermont. Luther was in the War of 1812 and died in 1849. It seems Mrs. Downing had disappeared for the 1850 census, I've tried soundex, etc and no luck! This Downing family seems to have a connection to the Forbes/Forbs family from Vermont that also moved to Allegany County. The Forbes family were their neighbors in Vermont and also Allegany County. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! Jill

    2. Seeking parents of JOHN JORDAN born 6 Mar 1764 where I know not. He died 26 Jan 1850 Pike, Wyoming Co, NY, but buried in family lot in Friendship, Allegany Co., NY. He married 15 Sep 1785 probably in or near Goshen, Orange Co., NY Julia SWARTOUT born 18 Nov 1769 daughter of Jacobus SWARTOUT who before and during the Revolution lived in Sugar Loaf which is now in town of Chester, Orange Co., NY but then in town of Warwick, Orange Co., NY. Following children born to John and Julia: Michael 1786 in Orange Co; William 1788; Jesse 1790; James 1791; hn 1792; Andrew; 1795; Betsey 1797; Isaiah 1799; Sally (Patty) 1801; JACOB 1803; Julia Margaret 1805; Unnamed son 1807 at which time Julia probably died because she does not appear in 1810 census. John/Julia do not appear in the 1790 census of NYS in their own home with two sons nor have I found them in PA, NJ or any N.E. state. By 1800, JORDAN family residing in Cherry Valley, Otsego Co., NY. >From there, Michael, William and Jesse settled in and died in Steuben Co. James and John settled town of Cuba, Allegany Co., NY; Isaiah, after living with his brother, Michael in Steuben Co., migrated on to Allegany Co and he and brothers Andrew and JACOB settled in town of Wirt of Allegany Co., NY. Betsey (Elizabeth) Jordan married Sebastion WELLER and lived in Canajoharie, Montgomery Co., NY. Sally married John DYGERT and lived in Montgomery Co, NY. Julia Margaret married Charles PHELPS, migrated to Pike, Wyoming Co. and it was at her home that JOHN died in 1850. In 1840, JOHN JORDAN is still residing at Cherry Valley but by 1848 has migrated to town of Wirt and because he died before 1850 census was taken, it has been family tradition that he lived with his son, JACOB, but his will probate states he died at home of his daughter in Wyoming Co. ANY help would be appreciate on these above mentioned families.... Ruth Jordan Thoden RThoden@aol.com
