Does anyone know of or have any information on the American Hotel on Main Street in Friendship or the Mansion House on Depot Street in Friendship? Thanks Helen
Is there anyone on the list that has information on the brick building built in downtown Wellsville in the 1860's or 70's? I have heard of it but know nothing about it. In my husband's great uncle's Civil War Pension Records, he states; "My first work, when I returned to West Almond, after the war was helping my brother, Judson, in his store in Wellsville." I thought I remembered it was a Samuel Carpenter who built this building. If so, I would like to find out which of the four (I think there was 4 at this time) Samuel Carpenters it was. Or could it have been my husbands grandfather. Or was the store mentioned in the records a different one? Thanks, Dawn C./So. CA
Just recently found out that Seth Spicer may have married a relative of mine in the 1860 time frame Have found him married to Edith in the 1870 census for Independence -- but in the 1880 census . . . his wife's name is listed as Nancy. Have checked on-line cemetery information and cannot locate him or these wives. Could anyone give me some advice on how to proceed? Thank you in advance. Regards, Colleen Boose Hager City, WI

Strange that there should have been two! His name was William Henry Liddiard, and he emigrated to the US (Nebraska) from England (Leicester) in about 1867. He was an associate of Bill Cody, and I believe it was Cody that gave him the name. He died in Wyoming in 1906. He had an amazingly interesting life, being involved in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show and the Indian Agency at Pine Ridge amongst other things. I think he was quite involved with the Sioux, and he was in the army, as well as being a judge and a deputy sheriff at various points of his life. I know a lot about him and have quite a bit of documentation, thanks to the wonderful services of various US archives. One of them sent me a cutting about this other Rattlesnake Pete. It was the first time I realised my ancestor wasn't unique! If you would like to see it, I will try to work out how the attachments work. We have a fant! astic scrap book that has come down to me, kept by his brother, my great great grandfather who stayed in Leicester. It is full of newspaper cuttings and photos of Judge W H Liddiard/Rattlesnake Pete. A great piece of history. I wonder if he and Hiram James Harvey were aware of each other?

> Small world there in Allegany County Couldn't help but smile at this remark about Allegany County - which isn't a lot different than any other county back then...Remark reminded me of what I told my two Jordan nephews after I had put together our JORDAN genealogy. I'm native of Friendship in Allegany County, NYS and they lived in California; visiting their paternal grandparents infrequently. I told both, "Don't talk about anyone in Friendship to anyone else because YOU TWO are related to HALF the people in Friendship. Then I looked into my nephews' maternal side of their family which covered SWARTHOUTS and MIDDAUGHS. Next time they visited, I corrected my previous statement. DON'T talk about anyone in Friendship to anyone else in Friendship because you are related to EVERYONE who lives in Friendship!!!!!!! Haven't lived in Friendship since 1953, but have pleasant memories..... RThoden@aol.com

John and Robert married Welch sisters (Clarissa and Catherine). And, we have further intwining with the Wrights and Spicers...Christiana's oldest son (Amos Spicer) and Christiana's youngest brother (Walter B. Wright) married sisters (Lucinda and Lovisa Skinner, respectively.) And, another Wright sister (Nancy) and a Welch sister (Phebe) married Rice brothers. So, these families had quite a bit of contact. And, according to Gertrude Jones' submissions to the IGI, Sally Coats and Freelove Coats are sisters.

I have yet to find the one link that tells me this absolutely positively true. Sally Coats Spicer appears to have named her children after relatives and she has daughters Tacy (mother), Sally (self), Freelove (sister) and Catherine (??? but both Tacy & Sally have daughters with this name). Her sons are Russell (husband's brother), Ambrose (father), Shubal (husband), Avery (????), Henry (????). If you know of any information that definitely links them, I would love to see it. Looking at information on the Spicers -- I have Russell Spicer married to Christina Wright. Catherine Welch married to Robert Wright. Clarissa Tacy Welch married to John Wright. Are all these "Wrights" siblings?

Surnames: Pire, Pier Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BUB.2ACI/6262 Message Board Post: Another plea for help: My grandmother was a Pire, from Bolivar. From what I gather, her father was James Pire, his father was Oscar Pire and his father was Russel Pier (apparently, Oscar changed the spelling of the name?) I think I have traced this family all the way back to Thomas Pier, who was born in England in 1625. There's a book about him, "The Descendents of Thomas Pier", written by Joseph Pierre. His sons fought in the Revolutionary war and their history is realy fascinating. Anyway, I was wondering if you could help me confirm the link from Oscar Pire to Russell Pier (spelled Russel Pier in the 1870 Bolivar census). I need to confirm that this Russel was born in Guilford NY (Chenango County) and that his father was Silas Pier. I have found a couple of genealogy sites where users have submitted information that supports what I've come up with, but they are just people who posted family trees and messages on the web. I can't completely draw a conclusion using what I have. Will you please help me? if this is so, then Bolivar can chalk up another neat Revolutionary War link!
I am looking for information on an Amos Conkey that lived in Allegany Co in 1810. I believe he died shortly after that. I believe he had 3 sons, Amos, Sylvanus and Chauncey. I cannot prove this though. Anyway, the sons end up in Genesee County living with a Mr. Huff. Is anyone researching this Conkey line? Does anyone have access to the book History of Allegany Co, NY 1806-1879. It mentions an Almira Conkey on p. 300. I would love to know what it says. Can anyone look it up?
