I am hunting for information on the Elijah/Amanda Hunt family. They originated from Mass. and migrated to Vermont and then NY. I know of 3 children: Jason 1811, Samuel R. 1827, and Jane 1827. Jane had a son David. Samuel R married Mary Francis Hardy. They had William S., Edward, Ellsworth Rosin, Samuel, Mary F., George, Lulu and Ernest. They also adopted Mary Alice Cook. Any info I would appreciate. [email protected] Thanks Pat Reel

In what paper did the obit appear? Yes, I believe Jessie was the wife of Walter D. Boyd. So, if Walter Boyd dies in 1921, and Helen Backes dies in 1923, then Jessie Boyd and Jacob Backes are single parents in the early 1920's with several kids each to raise. I think they got together, something like the Brady Bunch. The children are not half-brother and half sister to each other as they do not share a biological parent, they are either Boyd or Backes. I have a 1910 federal census, (Source Citation: Year: 1910; Census Place: Wellsville, Allegany, New York; Roll: T624_924; Page: 10B; Enumeration District: 38; Image: 243.) This lists the Boyd family as: Walter D Boyd 33 Jessie Boyd 30 Della Boyd 6 John Boyd 4 Richard Boyd 3 Mark Boyd 1 And a 1920 census (Source Citation: Year: 1920;Census Place: Wellsville, Allegany, New York; Roll: T625_1085; Page: 10B; Enumeration District: 38; Image: 110.) has the Boyd family as: Name Age Walter D Boyd 42 Jessie M Boyd 40 M Della Boyd 16 John P Boyd 14 Richard H Boyd 12 Mark M Boyd 10 And a 1930 census (Source Citation: Year: 1930; Census Place: Wellsville, Allegany, New York; Roll: 1406; Page: 8B; Enumeration District: 40; Image: 466.0.) has Backes and Boyd. Arnold Benthy is, I believe, an adopted son. Name Age Jessie M Backes 50 Boyd Richard 23 Charles Richard 16 Arnold Benthy 9 Well, Boyd Richard, is Richard Boyd, and Charles must be Charles Backes. Charles's older brothers Joseph G. Backes and Edward N. Backes have moved out and are living on thier own. Joseph G. Backes is 25 years old and married. He's living at 817 South Avenue in Horseheads, NY. Edward N. Backes is renting a room at 25 Pine Street in Binghamton, NY. I don't know where Charles's younger sister Dorothy and younger brother John are. In 1930 Dorothy would be 14 and John would be 7 or 8. If they are not living with Jessie and with their elder brother Charles then I have no idea where they are. But, I know what happens to Dorothy and John. Jessie was new to me and I want to learn more about her. Email me at [email protected] Thanks again, Joe Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Maybe I am getting dumb in my elder years, but I cannot find them. I went to RootsWeb, message board and put in Allegany Co, New York as the location and Straight as the surname and was told that there were no results. They should come up when you do a search for the name. The queries, obituaries, and other items were merged into one board. You can browse by category or search for a name. Just be sure you click choice for "Allegany County" and not search all boards. How would I go about finding some obits that I had posted there a few years ago? They are not listed in the obituary section. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: buffalochic74 Surnames: Lowe Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.allegany/9829/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My great great grandfather Lewis Lowe was born in March of 1847 and died in 1929. He was a life resident of Almond, New York he was married to Sarah Jane Campbell and they had 10 children. My grandfather was a 19 year old private with the 1st New York Dragoons and was with General Philip Sheridan and General Grant when Lee surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse. I have been desperately trying to find family pictures of Lewis and have come up empty and there doesnt seem to be any pictures of his regiment. So if someone can help me locate some picture I would greatly appreciate it. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi Barbara, The Usgennet website lists the following cemeteries for West Almond: Mount Hope...Miller Road south of Rt 86. French...southern end of Palmer's Pond State Forest off North Road. Wright...on Parks farm Tuttle Road Farnum...Old Turnpike Road Waver Family....Near firetower on George Road. Hills family.....West of the town hall Phillip Creek...on Decker Road. and one with no name located on the Watson Farm on Baker Valley Road. I don't know the area, but maybe some of these names will be in the Beers Atlas you have. Marsha Barbara Shannon <[email protected]> wrote: Hi Listers, I wonder if someone on the list could help me identify an old cemetery. I find it on the Beers Atlas of West Almond in 1869. It is located near Angelica Creek, west of the village of West Almond. E. Watson, G. Watson and A. Post own plots of land nearby. I believe this is the area where my HANKS ancestors once lived. Enoch Hanks, my 4x great-grandfather, owned a sawmill on Angelica Creek in the 1820's. Can anyone tell me the name of the cemetery, is it still there, has a reading of the cemetery been done and if so, is it available on-line or otherwise? Thanks for any help you can provide.
