    1. [NYALLEGA] I found Abel and Laura WRIGHT -- and more
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: CindyKeeley Surnames: Wright Classification: cemetery Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.allegany/6616.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Abel Wright (1807-1882) and spouse Laura Wright (1821-1901) are buried together in the Bellville Cemetery in New Hudson, Allegany County, NY (located just south of Rushford). Also buried with Abel is another spouse Eliza (b. ? - died Mar 4, 1826) who I never knew about. This could possibly explain the older David A. Wright if the census has his age wrong. 1832 is too late to be Eliza's child and too old to be Laura's (she would have been 11) This now creates a new mystery: who was the female with Abel in the 1830 census? And he had both a male child under 5 and a female child under 5 living with him and an older female in the 1840 census. More questions than answers - anyone out there have a marriage certificate? Anyway, this cemetery info is on-line now on the Allegany County website. The attached photos of son Almond (and Addie) show what Abel may have looked like. 3. Cindy Hi. Could it be that Martha Wright's middle name was Lydia? Do you know what part of the cemetery Joel & Martha were buried? (I might (??) be able to help. I live near there.) Where did they live in Rushford? Where were they from? Many in Rushford came from New England in the 1800s. Contact me. Have you had any luck in finding Laura's death cert.? They were living on the 9 Mile in Allegany around 1880 so I think that may be where Abel died. Something that has me stumped though - I also had info on Joel as Abel's father and we always thought he was buried in Rushford, NY. I found his stone in the "First Burying Grounds" but next to him is his wife, Martha, not Lydia. Joel died Mar 25 1871 and I think it says 98 yrs 5 mos 24 days which makes his date of birth 1 Oct 1772. That could be the same person since the census records only approximate the birth year. But what do you make of Martha vs. Lydia? I also had info that Joel and his wife had Joel, Jerusha, Alfred, Lorra, Abel, Ely, Infant Girl, Lydia, Albert, and Marilla. Their births span 1800-1819. I have to go back to get more info on Martha because her stone is half buried and I can't! read the age that she was when she died. I think she died on Feb 19 1847 but it's hard to read. I also have other info on the Flemings if you are still looking. I attached a picture of Cordelia. I have more of her family too. You are so very helpful and I appreciate it : ) Ida Holmes was twice married into the Finch family. Her first husband, David Finch, died and David's brother, Lafayette Finch who had recently been widowed, married Ida. Eva Finch was the daughter of David and Ida, niece & stepdaughter to Lafayette. Eva married into the Benson family, and as you said, was living in McKean County, Pennsylvania. I wasn't aware that Orange (Julius) Holmes was buried in Ceres. Thank you so much for sharing that information. Lafayette was my gg-grandfather and his first wife, Cornelia Roberts, was my gg-grandmother. Eva is buried in the Myrtle cemetery in Mckean County Pa. Orange Holms is buried in the Ceres cumminity cemetery, McKean County, Pa This cemetery has one side that is on the Allegany County line in Ceres. I believe u will find more info if u look up the Finch families in Bolivar. I am told that several of them were buried in a home cemetery as well as Wells cemetery, Little Genesee, Allegany Co, NY and Maple lawn cemetery in Bolivar, Allegany Co, NY You might also check out those census records. Oh yes, there was a school teacher in Shinglehouse Pa that had the Holmes genealogy book for the Holmes family in the Ceres area (Ann Foote) but when she died no one seemed to know where the book was. I know she had it because I got the Parents of the Holms buried in Ceres out of it when she was alive. good luck Charlie Barrett Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
