I don't know where you live, but hopefully you are working with a Registrar, and she is helping you with your application and documentation. Obviously, records don't exist for all locations and all time periods, like we wish they did. This is one of those cases. Do you descend from your Patriot through Margaret Borthwick or her husband, James Willison? If your Patriot is behind James Wilson, the problem is not as critical. If your Patriot is behind Margaret (Borthwick) Willison, then the issue is more of an issue, but still not a show stopper. If you know who Margaret Borthwick's parents were, you might look for her father's will, naming a daughter Margaret Willison. If her mother was still alive when her father deceased, you could have someone look for a probate record for her mother, again naming a daughter Margaret Borthwick. DAR will accept wills and probate records that name children as documentation of the line. You already have the marriage date -- where did you get the marriage date? Is it possible that the marriage announcement was published in a newspaper? I have a girlfriend who lives in that area. She could look for a newspaper and probate records for you. Let me know privately if you are interested. Again, if the Patriot is behind James WIllison and not an ancestor of Margaret Borthwick, you really don't need to prove a marriage date, or I should say it's not that critical. Obviously, National DAR likes to have as much documented information as possible, but sometimes it's just not possible. Some marriages are recorded in church records. You can check the catalog at FamilySearch.org for Allgany county to see what church records are microfilmed. Those are available to a local Family History Center near you. I suggest also checking what marriage records are filmed for Stueben county, too. The minister may have traveled from another town to perform the marriage and then recorded it in the church record later. I don't know what the requirements are for DAR documentation. Deeds and Probate records will prove husband and wife relationship. A probate record may record the date of a marriage in the proof of the will or estate. Hi Susi - I don't have a web site. I suppose you're referring to the Deacon Stephen Hart web site. I am a 10th generation descendant of the Deacon. I have the Jungs back to about 1688 for Heinrich Jung born in Germany where he died in 1781. Does this agree with your info? I look forward to hearing more from you. We have no definite info on sibs except possibly FLORA & MARY AUSTIN born in the late 1860's. Also, if you have a library card, you may be able to access Heritage Quest from your computer by logging onto the library URL. Click References, Genealogy and then find Heritage Quest. You have to put in your library card number. On Heritage Quest, there is a link to Revolutionary War. You can download scans of original paperwork. If you cannot access Heritage Quest, I, too, will be happy to do lookups from home. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Kittie TRACEY which was taken at the W. F. Page Studio in Cuba, New York. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1860's or 1870's with Kittie noted as "about 8 years old" at the time it was taken. I am hoping to locate someone from her family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

If you ever find out what tribe, I would love it if you would share. I have an unknown Rogers male (a bit younger than your Icebenda) I'm looking for in Allegany Co. with the same rumor. I'm thinking Cherokee, as that area is deep into their land and they have res's there, but who knows? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
