My Gr-Grandmother,Viola Scouten, was living with him and his wife,Sarah, in 1870. Her name then was Viola Tompkins. She was living next door with the Spicer family in 1880 in Lisle. Viola was full-blood Native American. My Great Aunt on Viola's side was Ella Pittsley who married Perla Willey in Tompkins County in 1907. Ella had a brother named Myron who eventually settled in Utica,Oneida,NY. He was married to Mildred Gregory. She had two children from a first marriage to a gentleman surnamed "Harter." Jonathan Wixson was living in Bolivar in 1890 and participated in the census but told the census taker he had lost his discharge papers. The National Park Service Soldiers and Sailors web page lists a Jonathan Wixon (mispelled) as serving in Co. K, 136th NY Infantry. This company had many recruits from Allegany County, NY.
