Olean Time Herald Tuesday, 19 May 1942 Mrs. C. W. Stout Taken By Death FRIENDSHIP - Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Cynthia Stout, widow of Charles W. Stout at the late home on Main Street Wednesday afternoon (May 20, 1942) at two o'clock. The Rev. Martz Snyder, pastor of the Baptist Church, will officiate and burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Stout, a resident of this village for the past sixty years, had been an active member of the First Baptist Church and of the Laura M. Baldwin Class. She was a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Born February 14, 1862 at Elmira, Mrs. Stout was the daughter of John C. and Mary Woodhouse Drake. She had resided in Bradford, Pa. before coming here, where she married Charles W. Stout in 1886. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1936, and Mr. Stout succumbed later that year. Two sons, Charles R. Stout, Franklinville publisher, and Ernest W. Stout of this village survive, in addition to two grandchildren, Mrs. Lawrence H. Thomas, Birmingham, Mich., and Max R. Stout, Rochester.
Olean Times Herald Thursday, 27 October 1938 Charles Wilbur Stout, aged seventy-nine passed away at his Main Street Friendship home Tuesday evening after a long illness. He had resided there sixty-seven years. He was born at Pleasantville, Pa., April 4, 1859, and was the son of Amos and Isabelle Jolly Stout. In 1883 he married Cynthia A. Drake. He had been variously engaged while in Friendship, conducting a coal and wood business, and later was connected with the Drake Manufacturing Company and a hardware store. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Ernest W. Stout of Friendship and Charles Raymond Stout, editor of the Chronicle Journal, Franklinville; a sister, Mrs. George Smith of Richburg; a brother, Harry E. Stout of Ilion; two grandchildren, Maxwell R. Stout and Betty J. Stout of Franklinville. Mr. Stout was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Friendship and for several decades he served as a clerk and deacon. He was a member of the Allegany Lodge, No. 223, F. and A. M. for many years. Funeral services will be conducted from the home Saturday afternoon at two o'clock. The Rev. Martz W. Snyder will officiate. Burial will be at Mt.
