I am a total novice in the genealogy game and am just trying to answer a question that has been spinning around our family. My great-great grandmother was Lydia Delano Knight. This is the way it is recorded in some of our records. My great grandfather was Joseph, her son by Daniel Knight. Is it true that she was a Capen and if so why is the name Delano preceding Knight? Some of Joseph's relatives stated that she was related to the Delanos. Would you know if this is true. Anything that you can share would be much appreciated. Author: sswestcott Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.allegany/6520.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Wow, Chuck! I just finished reading the Fowler information on your website and now I find there's even more.... Before I get sidetracked with your news about Sarah, I did want to let you know some interesting census info: in the 1850 Birdsall, Allegany NY census, Charles Weed, 18, is living with Shubel and Sarah; then in the 1860 Birdsall, Allegany census, Margaret Weed, 90, is living with them. No relationship is given in either case. I did notice that Weed is one of your surnames and thought, perhaps, there's some kind of relationship involved. Also, from the Fowler info you have it appears there's a chance that Abel could be Benjamin's brother and Shubel's father. I'll see if I can find anything more on Abel. Your website, by the way, is an inspiration -- very user friendly and filled with useful details, neat stories, and exact sources. I wish more of my people had crossed paths with yours. Westcott is one of my lines, but it's fairly well established -- straight from RI to PA to TN. I look forward to hearing what you've found out about Sarah. Samantha FOWLER was my 3rd GGmother who married Thomas CLARK I still haven't been able to determine who her parents were. I have researched several Fowlers to try to make a connection but, so far, no luck. If you would like to see my research on the Fowlers, you can go to my website at http://www.rodekohrancestors.com . Then go to Given Names > FOWLER > Samantha. That page is for Thomas and Samantha (FOWLER) CLARK. You can read just what I have on the Fowlers or you can start at the top of the page to get some context on the who, where and whys. When you have digested that, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] and I would be happy to discuss it all with you. Maybe you can fill in some of the blanks that could bring us closer to their respective parents. Good luck. Shubel is my ggggrandfather. I've not been able to find out who his father & mother were, nor his wife's maiden name. Gilbert T. is one of his sons, my gggrandfather, and he and his wife Minerva are buried alongside Shubel & Sarah in Forest Hills Cemetery in Amity. Their oldest son was named James Shubel Fowler. I couldn't tell from your various posts if Samuel Fowler was Shubel's father. Of course, I would appreciate any information you can pass on. In the 1880 census, Gilbert indicates that both his mother and father were born in NY. I have quite a bit of information on Gilbert's descendants. Let me know if it would be helpful. I have found that Josephs parents were Solomon and Polly Reynolds, and I found out from Friendship town clerk that Abels parents were Soliman Reynolds and Mary Ellis from RI. But that was all the index card said. I didnt get to look at it myself but I asked her to double check the spellings etc. And Abels first born son was named Ellis, so that does make sense to me. I also found another Solomon younger in Granger, Alleghany CO Ny, I will have to look into to see if maybe he is a younger sibling? But for now I am working on Joseph and Abel. I didn't know about Tompkins NY though. I wonder if Abel was there too? I will have to check into that. Thank you so very much for the info!! In the writeup on the McLean Baptist Church, I found that an S. Reynolds is listed among its deacons (1835-38-184) and a Solomon Reynolds is listed among its trustees. Being associated these way with the McLean Baptist Church, I looked in the McLean Cemetery listing and found: Reynolds, Dea. Solomon, d. Oct. 22, 1844 ae 59y Reynolds, Polly, wife of Soloman Reynolds d. Oct. 12, 1849 ae 58y There is a Solomon Reynolds enumerated in Groton, NY in the 1840 Census: family is: 1m,5<10; 2f,10<15; 1m,1f,15<20; 2m,20<30; 1f,40<50; 1m,50<60 In the 1850 Census in Friendship, Abel is 30 and J.P, (Joseph) is 34. Hope Cemetery, Friendship. >From the list of children, I assuming the names came from the 1865 NY State Friendship transcription on the Allegany Co., website. Although I was unable to find Joseph (or Abel for that matter) in the 1860 Federal Census, I did find both of them in the 1850 Census in Friendship, visitation 3 is Abel Reynolds and family, while visitation 5 is J.P. Reynolds and family. I'd guess it was highly likely that Abel and Joseph were brothers. The 1850 Census lists Edwin and Amelia, adds a daughter Mary E., age 6 (born abt. 1843), Flavilla J., age 4, probably Florilla J in 1865, and Fanny M., age 1, probably Frances M. in 1865. Also living with Joseph and Eveline in 1850 is Eveline's brother Wm. A. Hart. Joseph and Eveline Reynolds and William Akers Hart arrived in Friendship in March 1842 according to "Allegany County and its people". Prior to that time they were in Tompkins County, NY. Joseph and Eveline were married ca. 1840. Bill Hart Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
