I've "rescued" an old marriage certificate belonging to Melvin WIGHTMAN and Sarah A. CORNELIUS both of Maryland, New York who were married on the 14th of Oct 1866 in Milford, NY. The ceremony was officiated by Pastor Charles GILLETTE of the Pres. Church of Milford, NY and witnessed by James O. BAKER and Orrin R. DURHAM. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding the couple and their families: Melvin WIGHTMAN b. 25 Feb 1849 in Crumborn Hill, NY to parents William WIGHTMAN and Catherine SIGSBEE. Melvin married Sarah Ann CORNELIUS and he died on 3 Jan 1929 in Ithaca, NY. Sarah Ann CORNELIUS was b. 23 May 1849 in New Salem, NY to parents Isaac & Elizabeth CORNELIUS, married Melvin WIGHTMAN and died 20 Oct 1931 in Ithaca, NY. WIGHTMAN, age 22, Keeping House, born NY Willis WIGHTMAN, age 2, born NY 1900 census of Auburn, NY: living in a boarding house Melvin WIGHTMAN, age 51, boarder, age 50, born Oct 1849, married 20 years, born NY, parents born NY, a Shop Laborer 1900 census of Covert, NY: Sarah WIGHTMAN, age 51, born May 1849, married 33 years, 2 children/2 living, born NY, parents born NY, a Dressmaker 1910 census of Covert, NY: Melvin WIGHTMAN, age 61, married 43 years, born NY, parents born RI/NY, a Drayman Sarah WIGHTMAN, wife, age 60, married 43 years, 2 children/2 living, born NY, parents born NY I am hoping to locate someone from their family so that this treasured document can be returned to the care of the family.
