    1. Re: [NYALBANY] NYALBANY Digest, Vol 3, Issue 300
    2. About burials in Albany, NY. My great grandfather John Xaver Haefele died December 14, 1911. My Mother traveled to Albany, NY around 1990. She went to Our Lady Help of Christians Church and was told that John Haefele was not buried there. We sent for his death certificate and it lists the place of burial or removal as Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery. Mom said that in 1911 they did not have the equipment that they do now and that the ground was probable frozen. When this happened the cemetery would put the casket in cold storage until the ground could be worked. John's wife Theresa Haefele moved to St. Louis, MO after John died. She died April 22, 1912 in St. Louis, MO. Since she had cancer and died before she could go back to have John buried, we really don't know what happened to him. He should be buried at Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery but they have no record of this. This is strange because the Catholic Church usually keeps very good records. This is the same John Haefele who died at 68 Green Street. Since he was supposed to be buried in a Catholic cemetery, I don't think that it was a brothel. I would still like to know if it was a house or a hotel. John moved to this address 4 months before he died. His wife Theresa was with him in the 1910 census and they were living at 25 or 30 Delaware Ave. After the census was taken, John sold all of his property and went back to Germany. Theresa went to St. Louis, MO to be with their children. John returned to the Albany, NY area four months before he died. Theresa was with him when he died. I don't know how to find this information. Who and how do I ask for it? Any help is greatly appreciated. Joan ************** One site keeps you connected to all your email: AOL Mail, Gmail, and Yahoo Mail. Try it now.
