I find this discussion of Green Street very interesting. My great-great-grandfather, Christopher Hess, lived at 59 Green St.?at the time of his death on?21 Aug., 1875. He was prosperous, and had owned and operated an oyster house at 52 Green St.?since 1852. I visited the street about 10 years ago and all the houses were gone except one nearby. I am interested in two organizations my GGGrandfather belonged to. His obituary said he "had been associated with the Twenty-Fifth regiment for many years, and had been a Lieutenant in the old City Volunteers." Does anybody know what either of these organizations were, or if anything has been written about them? Thanks very much, Anne Hess Neville
