Next to each title there is also an estimate on the years that each paper was in existence. Note that any listed under Albany should apply for Colonie. http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/nysnp/101.htm#Albany I'm not sure which ones would have obituaries, usually the Times Union would be the best bet, but it looks like that paper didn't start until about 1891.
