    3. Harold, You asked me about the parents of Robert STEWART. Based mostly upon census data, I suspect that his parents are James STEWART and Ann SEATON, but nether left wills nor have I been able to find the birth or baptism records for their children that would seal the deal. I have pieced together the following. James STEWART was born 28 Feb 1749 (based upon age at death), place unknown . He enlisted 1775 from Blandford, MA immediately after the Battle of Lexington. He married first 6 May 6 1776 (date of intention) Ann SITTON or SEATON. She was born about 1750 based upon age at death. She died 1 Mar 1814 in Kortright, Delaware, NY. He married second 9 Apr 1815, Cynthia WARD at Westerlo only a month later when he was 65 and she was 28. Hmmmm. The questionably reliable Stewart Clan Magazine says that they had two sons, James and William. When he applied for a pension in 1832, he was living in Westerlo and testified that he enlisted in Blandford, MA. The pension record contains no birth info, but some local histories say he was born in Scotland. I suspect that James was Scotch-Irish. Suspected children of James STEWART and first wife Ann SEATON: * James STEWART Jr., born about 1786 in Delaware County. Died between 1860 and 1865, probably in Westerlo. This is the ancestor of Laura Rabideau, with whom I have been collaborating on research. * Robert STEWART, born 1794 in NY or CT. Died 1868 in Westerlo. Left will. I have not found a grave. Robert was living in Berne in 1830 and 1840. Jesse STEWART might be a brother of James STEWART Sr. He was also a solider who moved from Blandford, MA to Delaware County. Jesse is in Kortright, Delaware, NY in 1810. James was there sometime before 1800. A Silas and Benjamin STEWART of Kortright may also have been brothers. Note: while James STEWART Sr (1749-1844) lived in Kortright, Delaware, NY, there was another James STEWART (1747/48-1823) living in the adjacent town of Stamford, Delaware, NY. He also had a son named James STEWART. The other James was a son of William STEWART. Early census data more often used STUART than STEWART, also STEWARD.
