1) ACHOR is primarily a government archive and, as such, does not have church records. The State Library here in Albany has some church records. Their multiplicity vary by denomination. What religion is the family? While not carved in stone, families tend to stay in the same religion. 2) For wills and/or Letters Testamentary, consult Surrogates' Court. There are Indices available to those records. 3) Adoption records are generally sealed. 4) Newspapers from that period didn't have the birth and death sections we tend to expect in modern papers. 5) There are lists, available at the State Library, of researchers. John/Doug, Thank you for your input.? The family was Presbyterian and remained so (to the best of my knowledge) until 1913. Another possibility is the Watervliet Public Library which claims to have some local history materials (city directories, etc). I don't know what they have, but here's the link: http://www.uhls.org/watervliet/About%20the%20Library.htm > John/Doug, > > Thank you for your input.? > > The family was Presbyterian and remained so (to the best of my knowledge) until 1913. > > Steve > > -----Original Message----- > From: groner2413@aol.com > To: nyalbany@rootsweb.com > Sent: Thu, 24 Jul 2008 7:18 am > Subject: Re: [NYALBANY] Waterman Brick Wall Still Standing > > > > You might try the Mormon Church(Latter Day Saints) for church records, they have > microfilmed church records from around the world.Check with them for a Family > History Center near you.You will find them very helpful. > Doug Groner > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Johnntravis@aol.com > To: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com; NYALBANY-L@rootsweb.com > Sent: Wed, 23 Jul 2008 9:43 pm > Subject: Re: [NYALBANY] Waterman Brick Wall Still Standing > > > > 1) ACHOR is primarily a government archive and, as such, does not have > church records. I have been to the library ,they do have city directories for many of the years they were published. There are a few years missing but some of those missing years can be found in the Troy library. Accross the street from the Watervliet library is the city clerk. They have old ledgers recording births ,deaths and marriages with some index cards on microfilm.I found them very helpful.
