My grandmother's father was born and raised in Rensselaerville but settled in Missouri after the Civil War after he was mustered out of the Union Army and raised his family there. In 1939 when I was 8 years old my grandmother decided she wanted to move to Rensselaerville (having visited it once when she was 17). My family lived on Long Island but we did not own a car, so that first year we traveled to visit Rensselaerville we took the Hudson River Dayliner from Manhattan. It took all day and was an exciting experience. I think the boat we took was named the Robert Fulton.
