When the Town of Berne was first settled over 250 ears ago, it was called Beaverdam or Beaver Dam because of its location next to a large beaver dam. The location of the dam has been lost in time (although there was a time a few years ago that I thought I had discovered it). The other day I had an inspiration, and using my computer here in my home in Oaxaca, Mexico, I found the location of the dam! I have posted the details on my blog the History and Genealogy of Berne, New York<http://berneny.blogspot.com/2009/04/beaver-dam.html>in two blogs. This link is to the first posting. Then read the followup I posted today which links or shows current Google maps.
