I would like to find out Ellen b. 1824 - d. 1891, her maiden name. I know when she arrived in the USA, she was married to William Sullivan and she was under 20 yrs old. I am guessing that should have been cir. 1842-43. Wm. died shortly thereafter, and Cornelius McCarty/McCarthy b. 1804 d. 1879 arrived in the following year or two. I find them in the 1860, 1870, 1880 Cohoes, NY Federal Census. Maiden names of Mother's can appear on the birth/baptismal records of the children, the civil/church marriage record of the couple, the death record of the individual, perhaps on the tombstone, in the death write-up, and ton he marriage/death records of the children of the person.
