Question: when I attempted to post a reply on the message board, I got this response " The Requested Message Has Been Deleted". There is no email address for poster "krismas92". Could someone please forward my response to original post via Ancestry.com (I'm not an Ancestry member): 1) I don't live far and could possibly take a photo this weekend for you. Please send me your email address. 2) You can, with Google Maps, see a street view of the cemetery. Good luck with that, because Calvary is pretty much empty and not in good shape. I visited there a few years ago, and it is very sad to see. There are only a few stones remaining, and I was told that most of the people interred there were moved to other locations and the cemetery was closed back in the 1950's. No records are available, although it used to be overseen by St. Bernard's Parish in Cohoes. Check the archives of this list for more info on this topic. The computer and monitor are less than 4 years old. Neither are working and we can't figure out why. The monitor just went black and didn't work when hooked up to someone else's computer. Then we discovered a problem with my computer so I expect I'll be buying a new one and a monitor. With the talk about Vista, I'm not sure what to get. I have Family Tree Maker so I am mainly concerned about all my data. Thanks for the suggestions. I won't be going up to Cohoes until Sept. so if you don't get a response from anyone, I can do it then. Barbara De Mase (formerly of Cohoes) Charlotte, N.C.
Lois, You don't clarify if you were buying a new computer, or intend to load a replacement operating system on the exiting one for which you did not mention age.? I think the technicians recommendation is the most logical: 1) If you have a computer with XP, leave the XP on the unit and don't put yourself in the position of dealing with interface issues. 2) If your purchasing a new computer, have it loaded with Vista. -----Original Message----- From: lois yunker <ljy@nycap.rr.com> To: nyalbany@rootsweb.com Sent: Tue, 17 Jun 2008 1:42 pm Subject: Re: [NYALBANY] ADMIN MSG-vista info I agree. I'm been running Vista (home basic and home premium) on 2 PC's the past year. So far I'm very pleased. Compatibility mode for older software is easier then XP. You do have to get use to the interface as it is different than XP. My only complaint is all the security which I found excessive. The user account control is particularly annoying. I shut it off. It warns you about the simplest changes you about to make. Once I reset them to a level comfortable to me it was okay. Cliff and all, Have to agree and yet take exception to your posting re. Kenwood. I was born and raised in the south end of Albany, NY. While Kenwood is/was in the Southernmost part of Albany bordering the Normans kill and the area across the 'creek' is Glenmont, Town of Bethlehem, neither of them were ever incorporated villages or hamlets. As such, nether ever had real boundaries. Where Kenwood ends and Glrnmont starts is anyone's guess. Cliff is entirely correct about deaths occurring in Albany, NY. Most importantly, Albany is where the hospitals are. Many sick people from outlying areas were brought to the hospitals here only to pass away.
