I did take pictures the last time I was there but have not developed them yet. My great grandmother Catherine Ryan Cannon (died 1906)is buried there and I have been sadden by the condition of the cemetery. If I remeber right many people are burried with Rev. James Keveny (many family relatives). I believe the stone is a large pointed memorial stone on the top of the hill. I believe the hall at St. Bernards is named after Rev. Keveny and I believe he was the priest that said the mass when my great Uncle John Ryan was burried. (I also have Kilfoyle relatives). I will try and develop the pictures and send them to you. Not many stones are left visible at Calvary Cemetery but the Rev. Keveny Stone is the most visible. My email is Jimbo01Can@aol.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [NYALBANY] Rensselaer County Marriage Index
    2. Bill & Cathy McGrath
    3. The following message about the Rensselaer County Marriage Index, which was sent to the Troy Irish Genealogy List, may be of interest to members of this list, especially the comments at the end of the message. List members may be interested in the status of the Troy Irish Genealogy Project of automating the 10 Volume Rensselaer County Marriage Index. 1. Volumes 1 to 5, with their 32,000 names, are currently on-line on the TIGS website, www.rootsweb.com/~nytigs/ 2. Volumes 6 and 7, with their 8,000 names, are now being transcribed. All of the Grooms records have been data entered, proof read and analyzed for errors. About 75% of the Brides names have already been transcribed. When the remaining Brides files are finished and analyzed for errors, the Grooms and Brides names will then be combined by the marriage number, and hopefully, by August, will be put on-line on the TIGS website. 3. Preliminary work has started on Volume 8, with it's 4,000 names. As previously mentioned, the index pages for this volume do not show the marriage number and the date of the marriage. Several local TIGS volunteers have already started to look up the names in the Marriage Book itself, to obtain this information and post it to the photocopy of the marriage index page. Once that work has been done, the index page can then be scanned and sent to a transcriber. 4. The final two index books, Volumes 9 and 10, are similar to Volume 8, in that the index page does not show all the necessary information and look-ups in the Marriage Book will be required to obtain the missing data before the pages can be transcribed. The following comments about the marriage index may be of interest to family researchers. Having worked on the first 7 volumes of the index, I have observed that, in many cases, the place of birth or residence of the Bride and Groom and even the place of the marriage itself, is OUTSIDE of Rensselaer County and even OUTSIDE New York State. As an example, a record I was looking at the other day had the Groom residing and born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania., the Bride residing in Detroit, Michigan, born in Jamestown, Pennsylvania and the wedding taking place in Troy. In looking up several family names on the index, I have also found prior marriages for the individuals that were not known to me. So don't discount checking out the index because it is Rensselaer County and your relatives didn't live there. You never know what you will find! Regards, Bill McGrath TIGS Project Coordinator Clifton Park, NY

Foll Funeral Home, 434 S. Pearl St. on Saturday. I was unable to locate an obituary. The Times Union also printed a death notice for William G. Kundel on 10/15/1971 that read: William G. Kundel died 10/13/1971, son of the late Bertha Witt and Paul F. Kundel, brother of Mrs. Albin (Marie) Anderson of Troy and Miss Bertha L. Kundel of 14 S. Dove St., Albany. 1. [NYALBANY] Moon and genealogy
    2. Cliff Lamere
    3. Friday June 27 is the last day to submit your name to NASA to have it included on a microchip that will be sent into orbit around the Moon later this year. You can also print a certificate that confirms that your name was included in this unique event. Over a million names have been submitted so far. http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/LRO/main/index.html I feel certain that the list of names will survive into the future and will be made available to the public. So, does the event have any genealogical significance? Will our descendants see the list two hundred years from now? You are only allowed to submit your first and last name. For genealogy, it hardly seems that it is worth it. How would a future person know whether it was you or someone with an identical name? So, I have been thinking about how to improve the odds that a future relative will know they were seeing my name. The first and last name fields will accept a seemingly limitless number of characters. It accepts spaces, commas, hyphens, etc. I am thinking about entering the following for myself: Clifford William Lamere Albany,NY I decided against a space before the state abbreviation. I avoided a comma at the end of my surname. A woman may want to include her maiden name, but using a hyphenated name like Smith-Jones (where Smith is the maiden name) may mean that future relatives who don't know your maiden name will be searching for Jones. Perhaps something like this would work. Mary Elizabeth Jones (Smith) Miami,FL If in the future they use search engines of the type that we have today, a descendant may not find me (they will be searching for a first name only, not my first and middle name). But, without the greater amount of information I will supply, they wouldn't have known whether the simple two name entry was mine or not. So, I will take a chance that the future search system will allow people to find my name. And, I will use a system that will print with a reasonable name on the certificate. Having been an earth science teacher who taught about the moon, I like the idea of having my name on a microchip orbiting the moon. As a genealogist, I would like to think that a future relative will find my name and know it is mine. If you think of something better or more logical to submit to NASA, please tell us about it. Cliff Lamere ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
