    3. I vote for maintaining the status quo. I am trying to find as much info as I can about my illusive York family in NYS and I do not mind hitting the delete button now and again. I appreciate all the help and hints given to me by all our fellow listers and our Admin. Pat. 3. I agree with Pat below. One more tap of the delete key isn't going to hurt anyone. 1. Re: [NYALBANY] LOCKWOOD
    2. Marilyn LeVeque
    3. Hello Sharon, The Lockwood who married into my Brown line is: Ambrose (7) K. Lockwood who married Sally Brown (daughter of Charles Brown and Anna Christian) married ca 1820's, he born ca Dec. 9, 1789. Sally Brown Lockwood died ca 1833 either NY or Ohio. They had 4 sons, Daniel Lockwood b. 1827, Charles Brown Lockwood born 1829, Judson Adoniram Lockwood b. 1831 and Clark I. Lockwood b. 1832. Family went to Cleveland area of Ohio from Mexico, Oswego County, NY. Supposed father & lineage of Ambrose K. Lockwood is James (6), Jeremiah (5), Hezekiah (4), Gersham (3), Jonathan (2), Robert (1) Lockwood. This is what has been placed on gedcom files, but I would like to know if any Lockwood historians know more regarding Sally Brown (DOB/DOD?) and who her Brown grandparents are? Her father, Charles Brown was b. ca 1774 in CT or NY per Census records and died April 13, 1861 in Owasco, Cayuga County, NY. 1. [NYALBANY] I vote KEEP message board gateway to Albany board
    2. Marilyn LeVeque
    3. Hello all Albany listers, I am new to this board, but belong to others, this is the first board to notify me of a post by a nonlister to the Rootsweb.com board (or Ancestry.com board, both the same) regarding an Albany county query or information, so only having dealt with the one spam e-mail, I vote KEEP the gateway to the boards and I will DELETE the nongenealogical fraud posters. BTW-I am researching VanDenburgh's, Worden's, Bramhall's in Cohoes, Albany and Brown's, Christian's, Lockwood and Hotchkiss in Cayuga, Herkimer & Oneida, NY counties. For some who MAY not be aware there is the wonderful www.fultonhistory.com site which offers newspaper articles from NY newspapers & with a very simple search engine you can view the newspaper on Adobe. I found a Jonathan Brown's court case from 1821 in a Cayuga County news article and the Van Denburgh, Bramhall obits from 1931-1990's online at this site, plus newsy old time articles of piano recitals, visits with their family and friends, etc, very informational articles.. Love reading about the past lives of our ancestors and seeing the old classifieds and ads!. 3. I vote for keeping the connection. The "spam" is not so overwhelming, and worth hitting the delete key in exchange for the reminder and easy access of getting to the boards. Personally I don't have time to check all the boards... even if I remember to do so.... so I love the reminder, and usually there's a hint there if it's something I need to go to the boards for, or not, in which case, so simple to just delete that mail too. 3. Hi, Pat, It does seem that more and more of the "spam" type stuff is getting through. If Rootsweb, by way of Ancestry, won't clamp down on this, I'm for doing something else. What are the options? Ann

    3. Yes, I dislike the span but I have also recieved help via gateway as to finding a connection or a place to look. We all have a deleate button we can use. For myself if the subject line does not interest me I use my deleate button. Pat Connors <nymets22@gmail.com> wrote: It looks like some spam got through via the NY Albany message board. When I took over this list, a few years ago, we had a discussion about keeping the message board connected with the list and most wanted to keep the connection so we did. Meanwhile, Rootsweb became Ancestry with less overview, hence, we are having problems with spam on the boards and on the lists. So, I think this is a good time to get some more opinions. Do you want to keep the board connection or not? Please write your opinion to the list. After a week, I'll see how feeling is on the list and let you know if we continue the connection or not. Remember, everyone is entitled to their opinion so if someone differs with you, it is okay and no need to get in flaming wars. Thanks for your cooperation. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, list admin http://www.connorsgenealogy.com ====NY-Albany Mailing List==== Check out the mailing list's website at:http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/Albany/ Add/check your Albany surnames on the Surname Registry. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NYALBANY-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message Genealogy is my Hobby, I collect ancestors !

    3. Actually, Ann. Those admins, like I, sit on the list spam because most are held for our approval via a spam filter. But, the message boards are something else. One can post to a board and it will immediately be posted to the board and the list. Since it's address is from the board, it is automatically posted to the list and gets past the spam filter for the list. Some on the lists get really annoyed when they hit the list and I get nasty emails or nasty emails are posted to the lists. Personally, I just delete them and pay no more mind to them. But, I thought since recently the Rensselaer list decided they didn't want the message board any longer, I'd give the Albany list a choice, also. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

    3. It's a dead issue. microfilming / digitalizing still going on. Where's the actual letter? Even the Catholics themselves are asking. The only source is in that newspaper owned and operated by the Vatican. The LDS Church hasn't issued a statement on this. They are waiting for the letter, already more than 3 months and still no sight of the letter. So can we just deep six the letter and proceed to do better? 2. I have been to the library ,they do have city directories for many of the years they were published. There are a few years missing but some of those missing years can be found in the Troy library. Accross the street from the Watervliet library is the city clerk. They have old ledgers recording births ,deaths and marriages with some index cards on microfilm.I found them very helpful.
