The Vedder Library of the Greene County Historical Society in Coxsackie, NY, just off 9W has a great deal of information on the VanDenburgh family. Hi JT, The indexes work for me.? I simply need the date and place of marriage of Cornelius Collins and Ellen (Helen, Nellie) McCarthy (McCartie).? The friend I am helping with his Irish citizenship will order the record if I can find where and when the couple was married. I understand the Albany office has the indexes for the whole state except for NYC.? If they are not in the index, they were probably not married in NY State, as I cannot find them in the NYC records. Also can you tell me when civil marriage registration was mandatory in the State of NY?? Is it possible the couple had a church wedding in NY State that was not registered with the State? Colleen The Indices are at the State Archives, not the records themselves. What are you looking for? First of all, Cohoes is a City. I don't know if they ever got around to appointing a new Historian. Write to Mayor John McDonald at City Hall. Death certificates sometimes give parents name, but not always. You might get the father's name, but the mother's maiden name is rarer for a death certificate. Obviously the people who would know are long dead. What religion were they? Where are they buried? Husband is most likely with wife. Records from the old Cohoes Calvary Cemetery (R.C.)are at the Diocescan Office? Did you look in the 1915 and 1925 Census (at ACHOR)? .JT **************Get fantasy football with free live scoring. I am still plugging away attempting to find out about my Harmon S. Van Ness (aka Harrison Williams). I have learned that there is indeed 2 Harmon Van Ness' in the same area of NY. The one I've turned up lately is a Herman/Harmon S. Van Ness who served in Comp. G 14th NY Infantry. This is not my line. My Harmon served Comp. G 24th NY Infantry - I have his Civil War Pension file as well as his mustering in record. So, I'm at the point where I cannot afford to travel to Albany or Oswego so, I will simply have to hire a genealogist to obtain the records for me. I will share what I learn for other Harmon Van Ness/Harrison Williams researchers. Back to work, Kittye Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
