    3. I see the the LDS has three microfilms of the Albany state (1855) census - Vol. 1 through 4. Would you be able to suggest which volume would (or might) contain Ward 7 of the city? My family was listed in Ward 7 in both 1850 and 1860 U.S. census. Thanks for any suggestions... 1. [NYALBANY] SHARP, Albany 1850-ish BIG BICKWALL
    2. Betsy
    3. hello, I have been trying to get somewhere with this branch of my tree for quite sometime but am brickwalled. It is the SHARP family from Albany, Albany, NY. I am working off of some information left me by a great uncle who knew some of the people and gathered info from them. Also have followed them in census. 1) Katherine (or Kate) Louise SHARP born 1834 Albany, NY ( have never found her on the 1850 census) married first George HAWORTH in Cohoes, NY in 1852 He died in 1857. She then married Robert HARROP. Not sure when or where. In the 1860 census she has a 2 month old son and is living in Fishkill, NY, by 1870 they are in Norriton, PA and in 1880 she is in North Adams, Massachusetts. Kate dies in 1881. Her death cert. lists her father as David SHARP and mother only as Elizabeth. Kate's daughter was named Elizabeth, maybe after her mom? Going back and looking for David Sharp, I found one in 1850 Albany with kids and a wife ? Hannah. 1850 Albany Ward 10 David SHARP 48 carter Hannah 28 Laura 16 Jane 14 Absalom 9 David 2 John Bray Sharp 5 The children Laura, Jane and Absalom are mention by my great uncle as siblings of Katherine. He also mentions a MArgaret, but perhaps she is Esther? By 1860, I find Hannah Sharp and young son David living in Greenbush, NY as a widow, so I am assuming David Sharp Sr (Kate's presumed father) died between 1850-1860. Absalom SHARP is in Cohoes in 1860 (where Katherine was) unmarried and living with Ester Sharp and her son G. H. Sharp, and Saml Forrester. In 1870, Absalom is married with kids, but dies in 1873 according to the History of Cohoes, death abstracts. In 1880, Esther SHARP is Esther FROST living in Massachusetts.. She has a nephew Levi Forrester with her. Checked the death indices for MASS 1891-1900 and no death for Esther Frost, yet she disappears. In 1860 Esther Frost is next door to Robert and Kate Harrop in PA. Laura Sharp marries Charles BEDELL. The LDS has one in 1864 at the 1st Lutheran, no more info given. She just disappears after 1870 census but there is a Laura in Willard, insane . At one point, Charles and Laura Bedell are living next door to Frosts in Albany. Everything I can find is too early or happens where I cannot find info. Any ideas>>>>> I am desperate! Thanks Betsy Rubel

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: carol9cc Surnames: cooper winchell doty Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.albany/7622/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have found the family in the 1850 fed. census (burton, Cattaraugus, NY) and also in 1860 (Amity, Allegany, NY, post office Belmont). In 1850, children are listed as Hudson (b. abt 1833), Miles (aka Milo, b. abt 1836 in Albany), Martin (b. abt 1838) and Leonora (aka Eleanora, b. 1842 in Mt. Morris) These four are my ancestors. Also listed are two Winchell children (Maria & Ivantha) plus an adult male, age 27, named Aaron WOOD. In that 1850 census, the parents are listed as William E. Winchell and Margaret Winchell. I'm assuming that the mother must have remarried, but I don't know. In 1860, the last few family members were living in Amity - W.E. Winchell and wife Margaret along with daughters Eleanora and Cordelia. The three sons had moved to Stevens Point, Wisconsin before 1860. Eleanora married Chauncey Doty in Belmont in 1861 and they also moved to Stevens Point, Wisconsin in abt. 1865. I'm trying to find the maiden name and information on the mother and father of Hudson, Milo, Martin and Eleanora Cooper plus any information on why they lived with Mr. Winchell. I'm guessing that Mr. Cooper (father) died sometime before 1850 and then his wife remarried. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated! 3. Who could be the parents of Catherine CARPENTER born 24 Mar 1802 (based on age at death) in Albany County? She married in Schoharie County so I would suspect that she moved there with her father. The following appear in Albany County in the 1800 census. Can any be ruled out as Catherine's father/mother? CARPENTER Abigail Watervliet 1800 CARPENTER Increase Duanesburg 1800 CARPENTER John Rensselaerville 1800 CARPENTER Samuel Coeymans 1800 CARPENTER Thomas Rensselaerville 1800

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: LISSABABEY Surnames: Offenbacker, Nedoroscik, Bederick, Dederick, Neaton Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.albany/7621.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Heather - Based on the SSDI, Elizabeth was born 1/21/1924 (which agrees with the below census record) and died 9/19/1993. In her obituary, she lists Leonard as a step-brother, which should mean that are only related by marriage, so her mother is probably not Mattie. I found Elmer's (who's name appears to be Irvin Elmer) obituary, he died 4/1/1970. It says he is the son of the "late Charles and Stella [Bederick, Dederick] Neaton". It lists Charles as a surviver, but does not list Elizabeth or Leonard, who both would have been alive at this point. Family from the 1930 census: Home in 1930: Mechanicville, Saratoga, New York Household Members: Name Age Charles Neaton 50 Head Marinda Neaton 39 Wife Elizabeth Neaton 6 Daughter NOTE: I wasn't able to find any other census records that seemed to apply to the family. Note that the census says that Charles was first married in 1901 and Marinda was first married in 1907. I am assuming that this is not the same person as Mattie, which would lead me to believe that Charles was married before this current marriage to Marinda. Would it be possible that Charles Sr actually had 3 wives? If so, maybe: Wife #1 - Stella - definitely Elmer and possibly Charles, based on Elmer's obituary. Wife #2 - Miranda - possibly the mother of Elizabeth, since we are not sure when this couple was married. But based on Elmer's obituary not listing her, I'd lean towards Miranda being her mother. Even then she'd still be a half sister so you would think she'd be listed either way. Wife #3 - Mattie - who already had Leonard. The SSDI shows he was born in April 6, 1907. Obviously this is just a guess. Also this would mean that Charles and Mattie must have been married after 1930, and would have had no children together. I'd assume Elmer and Charles are older than Elizabeth due to the parents ages (50 & 39) in 1930. I couldn't find their birth dates in the SSDI or on the birthday database. If you have their birth dates you may be able to make better sense of this info! Oh, and while looking this stuff up, I found: - Obit for Elizabeth - Obit for Elmer - Marriage notice for Elizabeth (they were married 6/6/1943) - SSDI for Elmer, Elizabeth, and Mattie - Obits for what appears to be 2 brothers of Charles Sr. - Obit for Leonard Offenbacker. Let me know if you need any of these records! Also have you been to the NYS Archives in Albany? There are vital records indexes there where you may be able to find the marriage dates and also birth dates for these people. Good luck, Laurissa Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
