    1. [NYALBANY] Access to Archives?
    2. Dave Orens
    3. I'm writing from out of state (Boston area) and looking for suggestions on how to access material at the State Archives (vital record indices). I have emailed them a request to see if they can do a review of the death indices, but I will be extremely surprised if they can or will comply with such a request. Does anyone have suggestions, or better yet access to the vital records indices? _________________________________________________________________ Talk to your Yahoo! 1. Re: [NYALBANY] Access to Archives?
    2. Nancy Silkey
    3. Dave, We have the index in our library. Starts 1880 through the 1950s. It is organized by year, the surname, then first names. You then look at the microfiche sited in the index and look for your surname and first name. The person's name as on certificate and date of event and cert. # are given on the microfiche and usually the place (Town/city) of the event. That is all. If you are looking for just one, send info you have to me and I'll look it up. When you don't have the year it can take some time. If you have more than one I can do research for a fee for you. I can look for obits in the newspapers also. 2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as Lydia HARE which was taken at the Rabineau Studio in Albany, New York. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with Lydia appearing to be in her 40's or 50's at the time it was taken. In addition to her name, someone has written "Aunt" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following in census records: 1870 census of Bethlehem, NY: (living in the home of H. H. & Jane MCCORMICK) Charles HARE, age 36, a Domestic Servant, born Germany Lydia HARE, age 35, a Domestic Servant, born NY 1880 census of Bethlehem, NY: Charles HARE, age 46, born NY, a Farmer, parents born NY Lydia HARE, wife, age 45, born NY, Keeping House, parents born NY 1900 census of Bethlehem, NY: Chas HARE, age 66, born Nov 1833, married 34 years, born Germany, parents born Germany, to USA 1846, a Farmer Lydia Ann HARE, wife, age 65, born Apr 1835, married 34 years, no children, born NY, parents born NY I am hoping to locate someone from her family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to their care.
