I'll look at the newspaper for that date. I'll also check the City Directories, I know Lady Help of Christians Cemetery well. I used to live across the street from the Church. German Catholic National Church for many years. Possibly was buried in the old Calvary Cemetery on Delaware Ave and then moved. Hi John, Kevin Franklin told me to write to you because you are the Albany County Historian and may be able to help. The reason this is so important to me is I don't want our family in Germany to believe that the people of Albany are a bunch of thieves. We knew that John Haefele had made a lot of money in Albany, NY. When he knew that he was dying, he sold all of his property and went back to Germany to die. I have found several newspaper articles about John Haefele and his son Matthew Haefele. They say pretty much what my Mom had told us. The family in Germany said that John had a large amount of money, gold coins, with him when he left Germany. This is true; Mom said that the family did not know what John did with his money. The family in Germany thinks that he was killed for his money as it was never found. We have never believed this. We thought that he hid his money and it is gone. The part that troubles me is, we always thought that he died in a house. The German family says that it was a hotel. I want to be able to tell them that he died of chronic nephritis, myocarditis, exertion and exhaustion as per his death certificate. Thank you for all of your help. 3. Thank you Harold and I "assume" right now, since George Simmons daughter was born in Rensselaerville, that possibly he and his wife, Elisabeth are buried there. Although, it is possible they were buried in Berne. I guess no one must be working on my family tree branches. 1. Re: [NYALBANY] NYALBANY Digest, Vol 3, Issue 300
    2. About burials in Albany, NY. My great grandfather John Xaver Haefele died December 14, 1911. My Mother traveled to Albany, NY around 1990. She went to Our Lady Help of Christians Church and was told that John Haefele was not buried there. We sent for his death certificate and it lists the place of burial or removal as Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery. Mom said that in 1911 they did not have the equipment that they do now and that the ground was probable frozen. When this happened the cemetery would put the casket in cold storage until the ground could be worked. John's wife Theresa Haefele moved to St. Louis, MO after John died. She died April 22, 1912 in St. Louis, MO. Since she had cancer and died before she could go back to have John buried, we really don't know what happened to him. He should be buried at Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery but they have no record of this. This is strange because the Catholic Church usually keeps very good records. This is the same John Haefele who died at 68 Green Street. Since he was supposed to be buried in a Catholic cemetery, I don't think that it was a brothel. I would still like to know if it was a house or a hotel. John moved to this address 4 months before he died. His wife Theresa was with him in the 1910 census and they were living at 25 or 30 Delaware Ave. After the census was taken, John sold all of his property and went back to Germany. Theresa went to St. Louis, MO to be with their children. John returned to the Albany, NY area four months before he died. Theresa was with him when he died. I don't know how to find this information. Who and how do I ask for it? Any help is greatly appreciated. Joan ************** One site keeps you connected to all your email: AOL Mail, Gmail, and Yahoo Mail. Try it now. 3. I probably have more information than anyone about cemeteries in Berne and who is buried there. Most all of my information is posted on line on the Berne Historical Project site at Bernehistory.org. Search both the Berne Families Genealogy and do a Surname Search from the home page since there are two separate data bases of names. When I am researching folks that lived in Rensselaerville I always contact Janet Haseley, Research Chair, The Rensselaerville Historical Society. <Edhase at aol.com> . Unfortunately Their office is closed for the winter so no one has access to their records. A great many early burials were in family cemeteries and marked with just field stones that either had no names or just initials and maybe a date. And many of these burying grounds have since been abandoned and overgrown. I know of one abandoned family buring ground in the area that has dozens of burials and only two stones can be transcribed. The web site is already up at Albanyhilltowns.com<http://albanyhilltowns.com/>. It is a Wiki site. That means anyone can add information on their ancestors. There are web pages for individual farms, houses, and families. Under families there are pages for biographies, family stories, family history, and genealogical charts. 3. For the past six weeks or so, I have been doing a lot of research as I write a webpage about the forts in the city of Albany. I have been using various sources, one of them being Google Books. The title of one of them is "The History of the City of Albany, New York, From the Discovery of the Great River in 1524, by Verrazzano, to the Present Time", by Arthur James Weise (pub. 1884, Albany). The book is in the public domain because it was published before 1923; there is copyright restriction on the book. In fact, Google Books allowed me to download images of the entire book. Or, I could download a text file that had been created by an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) program. The text file contains some mistakes, and the maps that interest me are not available that way. I am using Adobe Reader 9 on an XP computer to view the images of the book's pages, but I am not allowed to copy and paste any text or a single page that includes a map or photo. I suspect that it is Google that is not allowing me to do the copying. Besides copyright, there is another legal restriction. Before allowing you to view or download something, a website may make you agree not to copy any of it. If you agree, that is a legal contract. However, Google Books has no such binding contract that I could find. If you know how to legally get around this restriction on copying entire pages or text from a Google Book, please contact me privately. Cliff

I didn't think I had John b. 1806 as son of John b. about 1770 (also appears other places as about 1777). I just have Robert in italics in the transcription of the censuses as a possibility. John Sr. appears to be the same John throughout all the censuses from 1790 thru 1860. I don't have an 1850 image nor did he appear in the 1855 Bern census transcription I saw. Part of my assumptions are circumstantial as these are the only two Garrison in the censuses and the are in close proximity. I have no access to any records so please feel free to correct any mistakes. Also I am looking for info on Robert's wife Fidelia Tripp. Any input greatly appreciated.
