Or is Jane Kennedy actually his only wife?? Also, my 2nd gr.grandfathers 1/2 brother is "Alexander" Morrison -positively 1/2 brother. Possibly "Samuel" 1st married "Betsey" then "Jane" her sister. From time to time, a list member will ask about a closed Roman Catholic Church, wondering what has happened to their records. Last week, I phoned the archivist of the Albany Diocese. She sent me some photocopies which I have scanned and made into a webpage. It includes parishes that have closed in the New York counties of Albany, Columbia, Delaware, Montgomery, Rensselaer, and Schenectady. It does not tell when the parishes closed, but it does mention where the records are now. I'd be interested in hearing about any parishes which closed before 2009 that are missing from the list, but only so I can assess how complete the list is, and how far back the list goes. I don't know if it gets into the 1800s or not. 33 parishes are slated to close in 2009-2011, almost 20% of the total. Eight had closed by Jan 23. The webpage has a list of those 33 churches and when they will probably close. In some cases, two or three parishes will merge, but in some of those cases it has not yet been announced which of the parishes will remain open. Before their closing, there has been no announcement as to where the records will go. http://www.genealogy.clifflamere.com/Aid/Ch/CH-Catholic-ClosedParishes-Records.htm Cliff Lamere

At the new temporary location at 30 Clinton Ave. in Albany NY you may park in the lot, but it is usually full. Nearby street parking is free if available, or there are meters in front of the building. Most old wills are handwritten in large, heavy will books. They cannot be photocopied, and they have not been microfilmed. The photocopying fee is now $.25 per page for uncertified copies of the actual wills that are on file. Cameras are allowed on the premises, but someone from the Surrogate's Court has to be called to take you through security if you have a camera. The will books and original wills can be photographed. A photo of the temporary location, plus directions can be found on the following webpage: http://www.nycourts.gov/courts/3jd/directions/albfam.shtml Cliff Lamere Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I looked at a will, you will first have to go through court house screening, go into the basement office, look through large volumes of index books, and someone will bring you the file. It was my second visit in ten years, they have a new building and the records can be retrieved faster than before. At my first visit over ten years ago, in the old courthouse, I wanted to make a copy and was told they would make a copies for me but had to charge a standard fee of $5.00 per page, even if I did not want an "official" copy. So on my last trip I did not ask for any copies, since it would have run into hundreds of dollars. If someone out there knows if the price has been reduced please chime in. I am not sure if they permit you photograph the wills either. I was in Warren County years ago, and the office charged me 25 cents and was very helpful. Albany is a bit busier. Bring plenty of quarters for the parking meters. Don Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Here is where you will find the obit. Go to Search at the top of the ancestry page between Family Tree and Print and Share. Click Scroll down to Browse by location and click on New York state and go to the bottom of page to New York State Newspapers. Search both the Times Record(Troy) and the Troy Record. They both had articles about his death. If you have any trouble finding it I will post. I had given these directions to another person and she had trouble finding it as she said she had the "new way" of Ancestry. She was able to change over to "old way" I didn't know what she meant as I have mine as a favorite and it comes up the same way each time. They've done the earlier ones, but yours may be too late. Try Sampubco on line for inexpensive copies from Salt Lake City. I can also recommend a researcher in Albany whose rates are reasonable who perhaps could help you out. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The probate year was want she wanted. She did call me back later and told me that for 1887 there were few wills in the drawers (or WHATEVER is in the drawers) ad for 1872 there was more in the drawers. I have another, in 1913, that was not in the index I used at the DAR library. Perhaps that will be there. Thanks for your response! My John Raymond Dunbar was born on the same day, 24 Aug 1895, in Wilkes-Barre, PA to Margaret Allen Dunbar and Alexander Dunbar. He was the youngest boy of 8 children who survived. I know that he served in WWI, and was stationed at Ft. Slocum, NY (not sure where that is), and he also registered for the 1942 draft, when he was living in Wilkes-Barre. Not sure if he married. I saw the SS death, and since the birth date was right, I assumed that was my John. Can you tell me how you found his obit on Ancestry? I am a member, but I am not getting the results you did.
