    3. This is interesting..I have been reading pages and pages of barely-legible surrogate court records (thankfully her will was contested by one of her heirs, so there were depositions, etc) and it looks like Catherine's mom died when she was little and to some extent, she was raised by her brother, who was the executor of her will. The deciphering is really, really slow and painful but I am getting the notion that she came here somehow at an early age and then sent for her brother and paid his way. She had mortgages on 2 Troy houses and paid off her sister's mortgage in Michigan--and was a domestic! In 1870 the census has her as a domestic for the Warren family in Troy. They moved to Cooperstown (or maybe had another house there?) and she was there for a few years before becoming ill with cancer and moving in with her niece (last name seems to be Folmsbee) at 71 Thirteenth St. So she had $1700 in Troy Savings and mortgages, paid for her own funeral, burial and monument (not with the $1700), the hearse and 7 carriages, etc., specified that her estate would pay for headstones at $100 each for 3 or 4 relatives--and then there is the contested $600 of clothes and jewelry. An interesting and resourceful woman indeed!! -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Kathleen Secker Sent: Friday, June 01, 2012 5:15 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [NY-TROY-IRISH-GENSOC] Catherine Armstrong I just went through Pat Connors cemetery sight for Lansingburg's Old Catholic Cemetery for McGuire and I found under that name erected by P. McGuire in memory of his late wife Catharine McGuire alias (!)Armstrong native of Ireland Co. Farmannagh d.July 2 1832 age 28 and then found at Mt Ida your Catharine Armstrong of McGuire's Bridge Co. Fermannagh died Oct 22 1881 age 60 erected by herself. I'll bet they are related! And the Mt Ida lady was out to show the McGuires a thing or two. At any rate I had a good laugh.
